- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the entire outdoor play area is (a) enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and will ensure that children are free of harm.
Observation. Licensing observed some areas at the bottom of the fence that had gaps that could pose an entrapment.
Corrective action. Ensure that the space at the bottom of the fence is less than 3.5 inches.
11160 - CCLR s.16(3)(a) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. A lawn mover was observed on the side of the house with children having access to it. It was discussed to move to an area children do not have access to.
Corrective action. Ensure a healthy and safe environment is maintained.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation. Licensing observed that the food in the emergency kit was expired in 2020 and 2022. A conversation was had with the Manager to ensure that it is checked regularly. Licensing observed the fire extinguisher was purchased July 1, 2024. The Manager said she is replacing with a new one. A conversation was had to ensure it is serviced annually.
Corrective action. Ensure that the emergency plan including how to respond and recover from an emergency is reviewed regularly.
13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation) Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): One staff certificate was not verified. The Manager verified it during the inspection.
12140 - CCLR s.19(4)(a) - STAFFING
The licensee must not permit a person over the age of 12 to be ordinarily present on the premises of a community care facility while children are present, unless the person is of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for that person.
Observation. A criminal record check for a person over the age of 12 who is ordinarily present is not available.
Corrective action. The Manager said they have applied for the criminal record checks and are waiting for them to email the clearance back. It was discussed to ensure that criminal record checks are received prior to living on premise.
