- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. A cord to the TV is plugged in and hanging accessible to children in care. A cord to the AC unit is wrapped around a toy shelf accessible to children. There is no sanitizer located near the diaper change area. Children did not have appropriate clothing for outdoors and were taken outside without shoes or jacket.
Corrective action. Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times by removing cords that could pose a choking hazard, ensuring proper sanitization of diapering areas, and ensuring that children have proper clothing and footwear when going outside.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. The pillar outside near the child care entrance has deteriorating wood around the bottom of the pillar.
Corrective action. Ensure that all fixtures are in good repair.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (b) located so as not to block or hamper an exit in the case of fire or other emergency.
Observation. The fire exit to the front door of the home was locked with a dead bolt from the other side of the door and at the top of the door a sliding lock was also attached. There was also a chain lock on the child care side of the door that was not attached.
Corrective action. Ensure that fire and emergency exits are not hampered or blocked.
11090 - CCLR s.15(1)(b) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
Observation. The climber in the back yard is in poor condition with pieces of the canvas breaking creating falling risks. There is no resilient surfacing below the climber with approximate height more than 4 feet.
Corrective action. Ensure that outdoor play materials are in good repair and free from hazards

Observation. Licensing observed the following in the children's bathroom - cleaning products located under the sink accessible to children -a mouse trap next to the toilet Outside rodent traps were accessible in the playground.
Corrective action. Ensure that children do not have access to any hazardous materials or substances.

A licensee must ensure that children are supervised at all times by a person who is an educator, an assistant or a responsible adult.
Observation. At the time of arrival, the staff person was outside and the Licensee was upstairs. No staff were with the 6 children in the program space.
Corrective action. Ensure that supervision is maintained at all times.

A licensee must (a) ensure that a community care facility has (i) emergency exits that meet the requirements of the BC Building Code, and (ii) a fire drill system that is approved as definedby section 31 of the Fire Services Act.
Observation. The fire extinguisher was due for service in July 2025.
Corrective action. Ensure that fire extinguishers are serviced annually.

Corrective action. Ensure that there is a transportation policy for walking children to and from school, and any other type of transportation that is being provided. Ensure that is kept on site and employees are trained in the policy.

Observation. No record of emergency drill completed in the last year

Observation. Multiple children's records were not current with -start date -children's birth date -sign in sign out -immunization status -care card -children's photographs -parent names and contacts and one child's record was not present in the child care.

Observation. Licensing observed: -The latch on the gate which leads to the street does not latch properly. -The change mat was ripped in several places exposing foam. -A piece of play equipment had a ripped cushion, exposing foam.
Corrective action. Ensure the facility, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair.

A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. Licensing observed: -The way the nap mats are stored cause the children's linens to touch. -There is an unsecured blind cord next to a crib in the naproom. The cord is accessible from the crib. -There is a pillow with a fabric cover on the change mat. Anything used while changing children's diapers should be immediately sanitizable. -There was no paper towel or other means of drying hands as part of a complete handwashing routine.
Corrective action. Ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

Observation. The following hazards were observed during inspection; cleaning supplies stored under the washroom sink; heat vent in circle time area was exposing sharp parts. Children could put their fingers in the open vent.

Observation. Fire Extinguisher has not been serviced annually. Secondary emergency exit door that leads to garage was locked from other side. Additionally, yard gate was also locked from outside. Discussed the intent and potential risk when emergency exits are not accessible to evacuate children safety.
Corrective action. Please ensure to follow the emergency plan and procedures that was approved to respond and recover from any emergency.

Potential for a child hurting themselves if coming down the slide, falling off the swing or monkey bars. Education provided on resilient surfacing. - There are holes behind 2 of the doors that lead it into play rooms. The holes have exposed white material.
Corrective action. Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.

Licensing observed the following; - Upon a review of the attendance record for the months of January and February there were 2 days in the month of January that there were 8 children in care. The maximum capacity is 7 for the service type Licensed for. Licensing provided education on the maximum capacity of the facility and that there can be no more then 7 children in care at any given time. - There were 4 children under 4 years old and of the 4 there was 1 child under 1 years old. According to Schedule E of the Child Care Licensing Regulations if there is a child under 12 months there can only be 3 children under 48 months and of those 3 no more than 1 child younger than 12 months old. The Licensee stated that they did not know this. Education was provided.
Corrective action. The Licensee must operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote the health , safety and dignity of persons in care.

Licensing provided education to the Licensee that based on their service type there can be no more than two children in care younger than 24 months old. The Licensee was unaware of this regulation.
