  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. Licensing observed a fan on a shelf with cords dangling over an area used frequently by children.

  Corrective action. Ensure that cords are secured so that the item they are powering will not fall if cord moved.

  Observation. One employee did not have evidence of educator certificate being verified.

  Corrective action. Ensure that you verify each educator or assistant certificate.

  A licensee, other than a licensee who provides a care program described as either Preschool (30 Months to School Age) or Group Child Care (School Age), must have in a community care facility a sturdy surface for changing diapers, located outside the food preparation area, next to (a) a covered container for soiled clothing.

  Observation. The Manager said there is no sturdy diaper change surface.

  Corrective action. Ensure there is a sturdy diaper change surface

  If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (b) readily accessible to employees.

  Observation. Medication was not readily accessible to employees.

  Corrective action. Ensure that medication is readily accessible.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

  Observation. Attendance has not been maintained on a daily basis. Attendance was not completed for the day of inspection

  Corrective action. Ensure that daily attendance is recorded indicating arrival and departure time and if a child is absent.

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. In the playroom where the children have snack and lunch, there is an orange extension cord that is plugged into the wall. This cord and outlet are accessible to children.

  Corrective action. Staff may move the wooden play kitchen unit in front of the outlet.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

  Observation. The attendance sheet notes only class times. Although most children may attend those hours, arrival and departure times of children who arrive and depart out of those hours are not indicated. Staff did explain that there are children who leave earlier than class end time.

  Corrective action. An attendance sheet that clearly shows arrival and departure times will be developed.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

  Observation. One staff has an expired cleared criminal record check.

  Corrective action. Staff will check with head office to see if new clearance check is available.

  Observation. One staff did not have current validation for her Early Childhood Educator certificate.

  Corrective action. Staff will validate certificate on the ECE Registry website.

  A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.

  Observation. Fire drill for the month of October was not practised for the 4 year old class.

  Corrective action. Ensure a drill is practised each month for all classes.

  A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

  Observation. Fire Extinguisher has not been serviced annually

  Corrective action. Ensure the fire extinguisher is serviced annually.

  The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

  Observation. Review of children files observed that one child was missing the date on the copy of Care Plan to identify annual review date.

  Corrective action. Ensure children files are complete.
