Observation. Licensing observed a fan on a shelf with cords dangling over an area used frequently by children.
Corrective action. Ensure that cords are secured so that the item they are powering will not fall if cord moved.

Observation. The Manager said there is no sturdy diaper change surface.

If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (b) readily accessible to employees.
Observation. Medication was not readily accessible to employees.
Corrective action. Ensure that medication is readily accessible.

A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. In the playroom where the children have snack and lunch, there is an orange extension cord that is plugged into the wall. This cord and outlet are accessible to children.
Corrective action. Staff may move the wooden play kitchen unit in front of the outlet.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation. The attendance sheet notes only class times. Although most children may attend those hours, arrival and departure times of children who arrive and depart out of those hours are not indicated. Staff did explain that there are children who leave earlier than class end time.
Corrective action. An attendance sheet that clearly shows arrival and departure times will be developed.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation. One staff has an expired cleared criminal record check.
Corrective action. Staff will check with head office to see if new clearance check is available.
