  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. It was a hot and sunny day during this inspection. Licensing observed that there is no shade in the outdoor play space.

  Corrective action. The staff said that they are in the process of acquiring shade.

• HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE

  A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

  Observation. The mats are stored upright in the closet with the bedsheets touching each other. The blankets are also stored bundled up inside the closet. These items touching each other poses a cross contamination risk.

  Corrective action. The staff said that they will remove the bedsheets before storing them in the closet and they will store the blankets separately.

  A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

  Observation. There are not enough food supplies in the emergency supplies as they are expired.

  Corrective action. The staff said that they already purchased more food and will pack them in the emergency supplies bag.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.

  Observation. Immunization status was not obtained for one employee.

  Corrective action. A corrective action plan will be submitted.

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. A section of the metal fence in the outdoor play area has a space that could present as an entrapment area.

  Corrective action. Please ensure this space is blocked off.

  Observation. The baseboard heater has a piece on the end that has partially detached.
