    Observation. The following were accessible to children in care; -A Lysol wipe container in one of the bathrooms. - Ice salt in an unlocked room.

    Corrective action. The Lysol container will be removed from the bathroom counter and the room containing the ice salt will be locked.

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following that are accessible to children in care; -unlocked bathroom cupboard with a cleaning chemical bottle in it - Kitchen, in one program, that had a hot kettle sitting on the counter edge. - unlocked cupboard in the main play area with a cleaning solution bottle in it. - two children's medications in the first aid kit sitting on a table in the cubby room.

    Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention will be addressed.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following; - a room with cleaning supplies and solutions open and the door does not close. - three carpets curled up at the corners. Potential tripping hazard and causing a child to hurt themselves on the hard floor. - Fridge temperature measured at 8.4 degrees Celsius. Discussed having a fridge thermometer to ensure that temperature is maintained. - Several doors from the nap room and kitchen are unlocked and lead into the other areas of the building that are not a part of the community care facility. Some of these rooms in the building have dangerous objects and substances in them, Potential for a child to get out into the other areas of the building and get lost or hurt. - broken toilet seat leaning against the wall beside the toilet in one of the bathroom.

    Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention will be addressed.

    Observation. Licensing observed a staff who works at the facility at times however, their certificate was not posted anywhere within the community care facility. Licensing provided clarification on the requirement of this regulation.

    Corrective action. A written response to submitted to Licensing on how this contravention will be addressed.

    Observation. Licensing observed two children with medication required as part of their care plan. However, their medication have expired. One child's medication expired in December 2023 and another child's in February 2024. Licensing discussed the importance of ensuring that medication required for a child is still valid and not expired.

    Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention will be addressed.

    Observation. Upon a random review of two staff records, Licensing observed that immunization status was not obtained for one staff.

    Observation. Upon a random review of two staff records, Licensing observed that one staff's criminal record check (CRC) has not been obtained. The CRC on file is addressed to another facility.

    Corrective action. The Manager said that staff's CRC has been completed but not yet received.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The following were noted at today's inspection: -Within the walkway to the outdoor play space, there was an unlocked door which allows access to a steep landing (with large gaps between railings) this landing allows for ladder access to the roof. The lock does not appear to be working. Discussion had with Manager about immediate

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Multiple chairs within the centre that have cracked in the middle. Tape has been placed on the cracks, however, the crack can still act as a pincing hazard. Tape does not allow for the chairs to be adequately cleaned. At last inspection, LO was advised that new chairs were on order, however, it appears as though the chairs have not been replaced or addressed (REPEAT)

    Corrective action. Pleased ensure facility is clean and in good repair.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING

    A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support.

    Observation. Upon review of a care plan, the symptoms and course of action were unclear. Additionally, there was one child who has a list of allergies, however, there was no documentation to indicate what the facility should do should the child come into contact with these allergies. Discussion had with Manager about ensuring that the care plans are in depth and easy to follow.

    Corrective action. Please ensure care plans clearly indicate reason for the care plan, symptoms, in depth course of action. Care plan needs to be created with the parent and reviewed yearly.

    Observation. Many of the children chairs have cracked in the middle. Tape has been placed on the cracks, however, the crack can still act as a pinching hazard and the tape doesn't allow for the chairs to be adequately cleaned. Manager advised that she has spoken to the Licensee about this and they have new chairs on order.

    Corrective action. Please ensure facility is clean and in good repair.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The following were observed: -Large, tall, plastic storage containers have not been secured to the wall. Storage containers can act as a tipping hazard if not secured to the wall. -Wood perimeter around the outdoor play space is quite slippery from the rain which has caused algae growth. Slippery wood can then be a slipping hazard.

    Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment.
