• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed an aerosol air freshener spray bottle on top of the toilet tank in one of the bathrooms.

  Corrective action. The Director moved the bottle out of children's reach.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. Licensing observed the following; - 2-3 wooden panels, on the outdoor play area wooden fence, are broken and detached from the bottom. The Manager said that someone has come by to look at the fence and will repair it. - several area's in the facility where the paint has chipped exposing the white underlay.

  Corrective action. A written response is to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention will be addressed.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.

  Observation. Upon a random review of four children's records, Licensing observed that the start date was missing for two records.

  Corrective action. The Manager will write the start dates down on the two children's records.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.

  Observation. Upon a random review of three staff records, Licensing observed that references for one staff were not obtained. Licensing explained to the Manager what would meet the intent of this regulation.

  Corrective action. A written response is to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention will be addressed.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. The following were observed: -Paint on wall near garbage can has started to chip (repeat) -Paint touch ups required on baseboards, shelving, trim where paint has started to chip. -Bathroom fan in need of cleaning.

  Corrective action. Please ensure facility is clean and in good repair.

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. A few areas where paint is starting to chip, in the washroom by the garbage can and where the toddler seat is stored. Few areas by the eating areas.

  Corrective action. Please ensure facility is clean and in good repair.

• LICENSING

  A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility the certificate, or a copy of the certificate, of any educator or assistant employed to work in the community care facility.

  Observation. One staff did not have their Certificate posted at the facility

  Corrective action. Please ensure all staff that carry a Certificate has it posted in a prominent location.

• OR SUPERVISION

  Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.

  Observation. When LO was on site, there were 7 children in care and two staff, one staff with an Infant Toddler Certificate and the second staff with an ECE Assistant Certificate. Staff confirmed that this is a regular shift that the ECEA works. Discussion had with the Licensee after the inspection that the second staff must hold an ECE Certificate as per Schedule E of the CCLR.

  Corrective action. Please enure staff to child ratio is as per that permitted in Schedule E.

  14030 - CCLR s.34(2)(b)
• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

  Observation. Care plan reviewed for two children, both care plans were not dated, therefore, LO could not confirm if the care plan has been reviewed yearly or had been created within the past year.

  Corrective action. Please ensure care plans are dated so that LO can confirm that they have been reviewed yearly.

  19260 - CCLR s.58(2)(b)
• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

  Observation. One staff was missing a criminal record check from the Ministry. The facility appeared to have applied for the CRC back in Feb but no copy was available for review. Upon discussion with the Licensee after the inspection, they indicated that the application had been sent back to the Licensee due to some error. She indicated that she had just received the CRC through email but had not yet added the form to the file.

  Corrective action. Please ensure staff files are complete.
