    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following; - paint chipped in several areas - 2 chairs for children where the cloth has ripped exposing the metal underneath Licensing discussed having a system in place to ensure that the facility, the equipment and furniture are maintained.

    Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.

  • HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE

    A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following; - a training toilet seat on the ground beside the toilet - no paper towel or cloths in the bathroom for children to dry their hands. The Manager said that the children use one time use cloths. However, Licensing observed children washing their hands for snack but no cloths to dry their hands were provided. The cloths are in a bucket at the front of the facility. Licensing discussed ensuring that children have either paper towels or cloths to dry their hands and should be available in the bathroom.

    Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

    Observation. Upon a random review of two children's records, Licensing observed that a doctor's information for one child was not obtained. Licensing provided education on what would meet the intent of this regulation.

    Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.

The Manager said that the parent has not provided one to the facility. Licensing discussed whose responsibility it is to ensure that all required documents have been obtained. Provided suggestions.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following; - A tall metal rack above the toilet that has many items stored on it is not secured to the wall. Toppling hazard. - An area in the back where items are stored taking away from the useable space. Repeat.

    Observation. Licensing observed an unlocked cupboard in the bathroom that had several cleaning products and accessible to children.

    Corrective action. The Manager will ensure that the cupboard is locked at all times.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following in the outdoor play area; - a metal tetter tater that is not secured to the ground. Toppling hazard while children are using it. - one ripped and deflated soccer ball. - couple of play trucks broken

    Corrective action. A corrective action plan to be submitted by the Manager.

    Observation. Licensing observed a training cushion training seat sitting on the floor beside the toilet. Licensing discussed hygiene practices.

    A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

    Observation. Licensing observed that there were not sufficient supplies (eg. no food, blankets, etc. ) in the on wheels emergency bag to recover from any emergency. Licensing discussed with the Manager supplies that would help in the event of an emergency and that there needs to be sufficient supplies for all the children and staff fro 72 hours.

    Corrective action. A corrective action plan to be submitted by the Manager.

    Observation. License observed that there were no documentation in the minor incident log book since October 2023. The Manager was unaware that minor/small incidents required to be recorded in the minor incident log book. Licensing provided education on the intent of the minor incident log book.

    Corrective action. The Manager will record all minor incidents involving children in care moving forward.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. The following were noted: -Various items (i.e. air conditioning system, cleaning supplies, bins with sleeping materials, etc) that are not used regularly are stored in the back area, taking up a large amount of usable space that is required to be available in order to allow for the overall maximum capacity of the facility. -Some areas where the paint has started to peel on the walls and on the radiator. Some paint in the back area has also started to ripple.

    Corrective action. Please ensure facility is clean from clutter and in good repair.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Within the back of the daycare, supplies and storage items are placed in the back in a pile (i.e. extra toilet paper, tissue boxes, emergency supplies, etc). The supplies can act as a topple hazard and also take up useable space. Discussion had with Manager about methods to have supplies stored in a manner that is safe and does not take up space.

    Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment.
