  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must have first aid kits that are readily accessible to all employees, including while care is provided off the community care facility premises.

    Observation. At the time of the inspection the children were playing outdoors. The program first aide kit was not accessible at that time. This is a repeat contravention.

    Corrective action. Ensure first aide kits are accessible on site and outdoors at all times.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. A table used in the program was damaged resulting in ineffective cleaning and sanitizing of the surface. The washroom sink was additionally not effectively cleaned posing a hazard to the children in care. These items were reviewed in depth with the manager at the time of the inspection.

    Corrective action. Ensure furniture, equipment and fixtures are clean and in good repair.

    Observation. A review of food storage at the time of the inspection indicated inadequate storage practices which could pose a risk to the children in care.

    Corrective action. Ensure monthly fire drills and yearly emergency drills are conducted and recorded.

    Observation. Washroom cleaning practices reviewed for effective healthy and hygiene practices. Handwashing practices not effective after snack and personal hand towels accessible in the washroom posing a risk of spread of viruses. The LO reviewed all of these items with the manager at the time of the inspection.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Upon review of the outdoor play are the following were identified; - gap in the fence poses an entrapment risk to children playing in the area - the fall zone at the base of the slide is positioned too close to the climbing wall posing a risk to the children playing in the area - the resilient surfacing under the playground equipment has rocks mixed in posing a risk to the children playing in the area - the gate of the outdoor playground appears to be in need of repair - metal flashing exposed with two sharp edges at the entrance of the facility near the door to be corrected LO reviewed these items with the Licensee during the inspection.

    Corrective action. Ensure a healthy and safe environment is maintained at all times.

    Observation. The program first aid kit was reviewed during the inspection. The Licensee shared that she does not take the kit outside to the outdoor play area with her. LO reviewed the importance of having a first aid kit available at all times.
