  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that each piece of furniture or equipment for sleeping (a) is used by only one child at a time, (b) is clean and comfortable.

    Observation. One sleeping mat had edges that were coming apart resulting in exposed foam which can not be sanitized.

    Corrective action. The manager said that she will repair the mat.

  • HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE

    A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

    Observation. The manage said that toileting wipes are used to clean children's hands after toileting.

    Corrective action. Discussed systems of handwashing which would be considered complete i.e. water, soap and towel to dry.

    Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.

    Observation. At the time of inspection, there was one staff with five children. The manager said the second staff was away due to emergency.

    Corrective action. Discussed legislatively compliant ways on maintaining child to staff ratios in the event of an employee leave or absence.

    A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (f) a log of minor accidents, illnesses and unexpected events involving children, that did not require medical attention and were not reportable incidents described in Schedule H.

    Observation. A minor incident log is not maintained.

    Corrective action. Discussed the intent and requirement of maintaining a minor incident log.

    Observation. The site has not practiced an emergency evacuation drill since the beginning of it's operation.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The following was observed: - the gate leading to the front yard on one side of the house was locked with a pad lock. It was discussed that this should be unlocked during childcare hours. - scissors and a box cutter were located on a table accessible to children in care. The Manager moved them at the time of inspection.

    Corrective action. Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is maintained

    Observation. A staff person is working without a criminal record check completed for the facility. The person has a criminal record check addressed to another facility.

    Corrective action. Ensure that you obtain a criminal record check for you site prior to the staff person working.
