  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following that are accessible to children in care; - A dirty rag on the metal handle in one of the bathrooms. The Manager informed Licensing that the janitor uses it for cleaning and must have forgotten it there. - Two adult scissors in an unlocked desk drawer.

    Corrective action. Ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

    Observation. Upon a random review of four children's records, Licensing observed one child's record missing the name and telephone number of an emergency contact.

    Corrective action. Ensure that children's records are complete prior to the child attending the community care facility.

    A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.

    Observation. Licensing observed one tall shelf that is not secured to the wall. Licensing provided education on the importance of securing all shelves or cupboards.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that all equipment, furniture and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.

  • HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE

    A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

    Observation. Licensing observed that the three soap bottles, that children use to wash their hands with, are highly diluted with water. Licensing provided education to the Manager that soap should not be diluted with water because the children and staff will not be able to effectively clean their hands and kill any germs and bacteria, especially during a pandemic.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that a program is established to instruct children and to practice the rules of health and hygiene.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

    Observation. Upon a review of the attendance records for the month of December, Licensing observed that for all the days in December children were not identified as absent. Licensing provided education to the Manager that if a child is away it needs to be indicated on the attendance sheets.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that the attendance records is accurate on a daily basis.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

    Observation. Upon a review of five out of forty-two children's records, Licensing observed one child's record missing the emergency contact information. Licensing provided education on the importance of ensuring that children's records have the emergency contact information in the event parents cannot be immediately reached.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that children's records are complete prior to the child attending the community care facility.

    Observation. Upon a review of three staff records, Licensing observed that one staff's certificate has not been verified through the Early Child Educator Registry (ECE).

    Corrective action. Please ensure that staff records are complete prior to the staff working at the community care facility.
