    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): In the 3-5 outdoor play space, a cable was attached to the top of a tall fence post and then secured at the bottom on the opposite side creating a space between the fence panel and the cable. This space could be accessed by children and may not be safe. It could present as a tripping hazard or cause other possible injury.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that all areas of the playground are safe for children.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following; - The fridge temperature in one Group Child Care(under 36 months) program, measured at 7.2 degrees Celsius and 11.2 degrees Celsius in the other Group Child Care (under 36 months) fridge. - The fridge temperature in one of the Group Child Care (30 months to SA) program, measured at 6.7 degrees Celsius. Licensing observed children's lunches stored in the fridge. Licensing discussed, with the Manager, that the fridge temperature should be between 0-4 degrees Celsius.

    Corrective action. Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. Licensing observed ten diaper rash creams in one unlocked drawer and thirteen diaper rash creams in another unlocked drawer in two different Group Child Care (under 36 months) washrooms. The creams are accessible to children in care.

    Corrective action. Ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following in the outdoor play area; - Four wooden stairs leading up to the play structure, in one of the Group Child Care (under 36 months) outdoor play area, are slippery. Potential for a child to slip, fall and injure themselves. Licensing provided only as suggestions having a non-slip mat as the one on the first step. - Several big lego pieces in the Group Child Care (30 months to school age) outdoor play area, are broken causing sharp and jagged edges. Potential for a child to cut themselves.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.

  • HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE

    A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

    Observation. Licensing observed - IT room 1 the bathroom sinks do not work. Manager stated that the batteries needed to be changed and this can be difficult. - The sink used for diapering was not being used. Both sinks had diaper supplies stored inside. Manager stated that the staff wash theirs and the childrens hands in the kitchenette sink in the classroom.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that a program to promote hygiene practices is implemented.
