    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. The following was noted at the time of inspection: -Multiple areas within the facility where the paint has started to chip as well as some areas where the drywall has started to chip. -Large areas within the back room where the wall was taped and the tape has started to come off. Not making the wall easy to clean.

    Observation. Soap dispenser can allow for the soap to fall on the ground if the child does not collect the soap within their hand. At the time of inspection, the flooring by the dispenser was quite slippery and there appears to be black/brown mold type substance growing on the wood trim due to it potentially constantly becoming wet from the soap.

    If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (b) readily accessible to employees.

    Observation. Multiple care plans indicated certain medications were to be used under certain circumstances, however, the medication is not available at the facility or had been returned to the parent as the medication was expired. Manager stated that even though the care plans had been updated recently, some parents had indicated that the medication may no longer be needed. Discussion had with Manager about updating the care plan immediately if there is an update/change to the plan.

    Corrective action. Please provide a written response to indicate how you will address the contravention noted above on or before June 4, 2024

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following that are accessible to children in care; - A child's epi-pen is stored in a basket in their cubby. Licensing suggested ways of making it inaccessible to children in care while still ensuring that the parents will not forget the medication at the facility. - A litre bottle of hand sanitizer in the bathroom.

    Corrective action. Ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: - Six sleeping mats that are ripped at the corners exposing the foam underlay. - Holes in the wall in several area's of the community care facility. - The laminate flooring in an area in the back room that is ripped and lifting up. - Baseboards in the bathroom are broken and separated from the wall. Some screws exposed.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in care.

    The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

    Observation. Upon a random review of six children's records, Licensing observed that four children's care plans have not been reviewed annually with the parent or any person requested to by the parent. Education provided on ensuring that all care plans in place are reviewed at least once each year. Licensing discussed what would meet the intent of this regulation.

    Corrective action. Ensure that care plans are reviewed at least once each year with a parent of the child(ren) requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

    Observation. Upon a review of five staff records, Licensing observed one staff's certificate has not been verified by the Early Childhood Educator (ECE) registry. Licensing discussed with the Manager that all new certificates are required to be verified through the ECE registry.

    Observation. Licensing observed a child's mat with the child sleeping on it blocking the back exit door. Licensing provided education that all exits need to clear in case of an emergency.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following; - A plastic slide that is placed in the dirt outdoor area. There is not sufficient resilient surfacing under the slide to ensure that children will not get hurt. Education provided. The Manager moved the slide onto the wood chip area. - A broken table on one side of the outdoor area with a plastic water table resting on it. Potential to fall on a child and hurt the child. - A large TV sitting on a TV stand, in one of the indoor play rooms, that is not secured to the wall. Potential to fall on a child and hurt the child. - A dirty mop in one of the bathroom accessible to children.

    Corrective action. Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following; - a toy stove and counter, in the dramatic play area, with one broken leg. - The cloth on a horse rocker is ripped exposing the plastic seat underlay.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following; - A canopy, in the outdoor play area, that is broken at the top causing the frame part to bend inwards. The canopy is not secured to the ground and with the broken metal frame can cause the canopy to collapse while children are under it. - a piece of the tile in the main play area is chipped. Potential for a child to trip and hurt themselves.

    Observation. Licensing observed that there was no documentation of an emergency plan being implemented at least once a year. The Manager informed Licensing that an emergency drill had not been practiced because they worked alone with the children. Licensing provided education on the intent of the regulation and importance of practicing an emergency drill at least once a year.
