A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (b) located so as not to block or hamper an exit in the case of fire or other emergency.

Observation. Staff do not have the code to unlock a designated emergency egress.

A licensee must (b) promote healthy eating and nutritional habits.

Observation. Food storage practices for temperature sensitive foods is ineffective.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

Observation. The facility keeps attendance records, however, those records do not indicate time of arrival or departure.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.

Observation. Two of three staff files reviewed did not have references on file.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.

Observation. One of three staff files reviewed did not contain immunization records.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

Observation. Three of three staff files reviewed did not contain certificate verification on file.

Corrective action. Reviewed the intent of cert validation with staff.

A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Observation. A blind cord was observed accessible to the children in care at the time of the inspection posing a potential hazard. The fall zone and resilient surfacing surrounding a slide on the outdoor play area was observed to not be effective for children using the equipment and a potential hazard. These items were reviewed in depth at the time of the inspection.

Corrective action. Ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.

Observation. The managers name is not posted in a prominent place. The LO reviewed this requirement in depth.

Corrective action. Ensure the name of the manager is displayed in a prominent place.

If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.

Observation. A child who might require medication did not have a consent form in place. The details of use of the medication too was not available at the time of the inspection. This item was reviewed in depth at the time of the inspection.

Corrective action. Ensure medication provided by the parent has a consent in place along with the details of the medication amount and times to be used.

A licensee must (b) promote healthy eating and nutritional habits.

Observation. Food storage practices for perishable items was observed to be ineffective at the time of the inspection.

Corrective action. Ensure healthy eating habits and food storage practices are maintained.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.

Observation. Three children's files were reviewed and one child did not have evidence of enrollment date available.

Corrective action. Ensure all children's files are complete including enrollment date information.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

Observation. Three children's files were reviewed. One child did not have evidence of a medical practitioner available.

Corrective action. Ensure all children's files are complete including Dr's name and contact details.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.

Observation. Three children's registration files were reviewed. One child did not have evidence of MSP# or Immunization status.

Corrective action. Ensure all children's files are complete including MSP# and Immunization status.

A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.

Observation. The program has been in operation for a few months and no fire drills have been conducted yet. This item was reviewed in depth at the time of the inspection.

Corrective action. Ensure employees practice implementing and recording fire drills once a month.

A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (b) for each employee, the records required under section 19 (1) [character and skill requirements].

Observation. One staff working in the program at the time of the inspection did not have a complete staff file available. The LO reviewed this requirement in depth at the time of the inspection.

Corrective action. Ensure employee records are available and complete.
