- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation. The following are accessible to children; - Bleach and water solution spray bottle and a cleaning chemical bottle on a bathroom shelf - one big knife in kitchen drawer. The Licensee moved the knife out of children's reach.
Corrective action. The cleaning solution bottles will be moved to a higher up shelf.
11200 - CCLR s.17 - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. The cushioning on one of the high chairs is ripped exposing the foam underlay.
Corrective action. The Licensee will throw out the high chair and replace it with another.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that each piece of furniture or equipment for sleeping (c) is appropriate for the size, age and development of the children intended to use it.
Observation. The Manager informed Licensing that a child who is almost three years old is sleeping in a play pen because they have a hard time laying still and sleeping. Licensing provided education on ensuring that furniture and equipment for sleeping is age and developmentally appropriate for the child using it.
Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.
11120 - CCLR s.15(2)(c) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. Licensing observed a couple of sleeping mats that are ripped and exposing the foam underlay.
Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - MEDICATION
If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (b) readily accessible to employees.
Observation. Licensing observed a medication, that is required as part of child's care plan, has expired. Therefore, the medication was not readily accessible to the employees. The Manager was unaware that the medication had expired.
Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.
16020 - CCLR s.53(1)(b) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation. Upon a review of 7 days of the attendance records for the months of March and April 2025, Licensing observed the following; - 1 day that children's time of arrival was not recorded. - 4 days that children were not identified as absent. Discussed with the Manager how to accurately complete the attendance records.
Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.

- STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)
Observation. Upon a review of the staff's record, Licensing observed that the staff's certificate has not been verified through the early childhood educator (ECE) registry. The Manager informed Licensing that they were having difficulty with the link.
Corrective action. The Manager will validate the certificate today, April 11/24. Licensing will email the Manager the ECE registry link.

A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support.
Observation. There is not a care plan in place for a child who requires one. Discussed the requirements set under section 58 (creating plan with parent, reviewed yearly, clear course of action, etc).
Corrective action. Please ensure care plans are clear, accurate and easy to follow, meeting all requirements set out in section 58.

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. Some areas of the daycare wear and tear is showing on the walls, i.e. paint peeling or visible marks on the walls. Licensing indicated that they could do a paint refresh over the summer.
Corrective action. Please ensure facility is clean and in good repair.
