    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Rusted metal rake was stored within the outdoor play space. Manager stated that it was used to maintain the yard and they forgot to remove.

    Corrective action. Rake was removed at the time of inspection.

    A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

    Observation. Licensing observed that the fire extinguisher was to be serviced on January 3, 2024 but has not been serviced. The Manager had thought that it was to be serviced in April 2024.

    Corrective action. The Manager said that the fire extinguisher would be serviced this weekend.

    Observation. Licensing observed some wear and tear on the facility walls. The wall next to the main entrance had a large chunk of plaster missing.

    Corrective action. Ensure the facility is in good repair.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: -The sliding doors to the bathtub were open making the cleaning supplies stored in the bath tub accessible to children. -The cupboard under the bathroom sink was unlocked making the disinfectants under the sink accessible to children in care. -A kettle with hot water on the kitchen counter accessible to children.

    Corrective action. Ensure that children do not have access to objects or substances that may be hazardous to their health and safety.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.

    Observation. Licensing observed one medium sized shelf, in the main play area, that is wobbly and needs to be secured. Potential for a younger child to pull on it and have the shelf fall on them.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that equipment, furniture and supplies, within the care facility, are of study and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following that are accessible to children in care; - A bottle of bleach, and Lysol spray bottle in an unlocked bathroom cupboard. - The bathtub's sliding door was open making it accessible to children. Additionally, a dirty mop was in the accessible bathtub. Licensing observed a child go to the bathroom on their own.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health and safety of a child.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

    Observation. Upon a review of the attendance record for the month of March, Licensing observed five days that children were not identified as present or absent. Licensing provided education on the importance of maintaining accurate attendance record and what would meet the intent of the regulation.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that attendance records are accurate on a daily basis.

    Observation. Upon a review of two staff records Licensing observed both staff records with three references listed. However, there was no evidence that the references had been checked or verified. Licensing provided education on what would meet the intent of this regulation for both staff.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that staff records are complete prior to the staff working at the care facility.
