Observation. Licensing observed one staff's certificate was not prominently displayed in the facility.

Observation. Licensing observed that one child's record indicated the use of a medication; however, during discussion, staff advised that no medication was stored for the child at the facility. Upon further discussion with the Manager, the Manager was aware of the medication and was able to locate it. A discussion was held regarding the importance of ensuring all staff are aware of children's medications, including where they are stored.

Observation. Licensing observed that several fence panels in the outdoor play area are loose and not securely fastened. Additionally, several screws are protruding from the fence panels, creating a potential injury hazard to children.

Observation. Licensing reviewed children's records: - One child's record listed the parents as the only emergency contacts. - One child's record indicated the use of an inhaler; however, the facility had not received the medication nor were aware of this information. Licensing observed that several departure times are not being recorded.

Manager stated they are working with the City of Richmond and will provide an update soon. - LO observed a total of 3 drains in the outdoor play space. Two of the drain covers were easily lifted off of the ground posing a concern of entrapment.

Observation. LO reviewed all staff files: - 4 staff did not have evidence that they complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs. - 4 staff did not have criminal record checks - 4 staff did not have character references

Observation. There are numerous replaced items through out the environment, including comfortable chairs, rugs, etc. There are also signs of wear and tear - such as step stools in the bathroom are unable to be sanitized due to peeling, and chips / nicks in walls that do not allow for appropriate cleaning. There was also discussion regarding the dim lighting (ceiling lights) and how to ensure the space is appropriately lit.

Observation. While this is ongoing maintenance and cleaning in place, there are two chairs in the main play area that are peeling and therefore, unable to be cleaned or sanitized. LO also observed that some of the child safety latches are not working, while there are no hazardous items in these cupboards, it is good to be aware of items as they are no longer working.

Observation. While the outdoor space is enclosed, and there are current repairs to the fencing in one area of the space. LO noted that the access gate to this area and fencing along that side are also showing signs of wear and tear. Other issues of concern include the paint / finish on the climber is chipping and peeling off in large pieces, and the concrete path for bikes and walking is starting to crack and it appears that the roots of nearby trees are starting to protrude and cause tripping hazard.

Prior to employing staff the manager has met with each person and has obtained the appropriate documentation. [CCLR Sec. 19(1)]
Observation. While there is a staff checklist at the facility that shows all files are complete. The manager stated that some of information is kept at the head office and some of the information is kept on site. Of the information that is kept on site the manager was unable to find CRC's and ECE validation for 3 staff and no information was available for the students currently on site.
