- CARE AND/OR SUPERVISION / Standards to be maintainedNon-critical
The community care facility is operated in a manner that promotes the health, safety, dignity of the children in care. [CCALA Sec. 7(1)(b) Standards to be Maintained]
Observation. For Nap time: - there are two groups that have guided meditation for 30 minutes, instead of a traditional nap time. The Manager stated that this is only for the oldest groups of children and that they allow children to sleep if needed. They have added mats for children to lay on and work with parents to ensure children who need a longer nap will be able to receive it. - there are two groups that are sharing the dance room for nap time. Children go into the nap room by1:00 and remain in the room until about 2:30. LO noted that not all children in this space are sleeping. Staff stated that children will remain in the nap room until 2:30. While LO is aware that most of the children do nap and may take a while to fall asleep, there are children who were not sleeping and expected to remain on the mats till 2:30. It is recommended that staff look at the differences between these two types of nap time, and find a way to bridge the difference to allow for a gradual change when children are moving from one group to the next. Some things to think about include - What options are given to the children who do not nap on any given day? Who's needs are being met by keeping them on their mat when they are not going to sleep or have woken up? Why is this dance room used for nap time instead of their classrooms?
- PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / Play Area, Materials and EquipmentNon-critical
All indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are suitable for the age and development of the children, safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair. [CCLR Sec. 16(4)]

The manager stated that there is toys / equipment available, but LO has observed children in the playground with no equipment available. LO also shared ongoing concerns about the hill in the middle of the playground in which there are areas without a 6 foot fall zone for safety. LO recommend that a long term plan be put in place to reduce risk.
