    The community care facility is operated in a manner that promotes the health, safety, dignity of the children in care. [CCALA Sec. 7(1)(b) Standards to be Maintained]

    Observation. Licensing observed a staff member sitting beside a child during lunchtime. The child appeared upset. The child handed their bowl to the staff member. The staff member responded by saying, “I don’t care,” then took the bowl and placed it back on the table. The child began crying more. Licensing informed the supervisor of the observation. The supervisor approached the child and provided support.

    The certificates, or copies of certificates, of early childhood educators and assistants are prominently displayed in the facility. [CCLR 11(4)]

    Observation. Licensing observed two staff did not have their certificates prominently displayed in the facility.

    Medications that staff have agreed to administer are readily accessible to staff and are administered in the correct dosage at the correct times. [CCLR Sec. 53(1)]

    Observation. Licensing observed: - one child’s record indicates the use of medication; however, staff were unaware of this information. Additionally, the same child has another medication noted in the record that staff were also unaware of. The care plan does not include clear instructions regarding when this medication should be administered. - one child’s record indicates a prescribed medication; however, the medication could not be located on site at the time of inspection.

    The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction.  They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]

    Observation. Licensing observed three step tools appeared stained and with visible dirt in the washroom.

    Furniture or equipment for sleeping is used by only one child at a time, is clean and comfortable, and is appropriate for the size, age and development of the children intended to use it. [CCLR Sec. 15(2)]

    Observation. Licensing observed sleeping mats are stored with bedding touching posing a risk of cross contamination.

    Observation. Licensing observed an unplugged string of lights, open full compost bin, cardboard boxes reclining behind furniture, stacked wicker baskets, step tools stained and with visible dirt in the washroom, paint drops and dirt in the sink and counter, an unstable wood divider attached with pipe cleaners, a broom and dust pan reclined on the wall, unsecured large paper rolls, tipped translucent bins on the ground, wooden boards reclined o the wall,, foam cushion inserts reclined on the wall, basket filled with blankets, accessible to children in care. In the outdoor space Licensing observed stacked bins and lids on the corner of the sandbox, and a broken play sink

  • POLICIES AND PROCEDURES / Emergency Training and EquipmentNon-critical

    There is an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency. [CCLR Sec. 22(1)(b)]

    Observation. Licensing observed that the fire extinguishers are due for service.
