Observation. LO observed: - 1 child has an allergy that requires an epi pen. Upon asking for the epi pen, the staff was unsure of where it was stored. After a few minutes, the epi pen was located. Discussion took place to ensure all staff are aware of where medication is stored in an event of an emergency. - an entry in the minor incident log book regarding administrating medication. During lunch time, a child was exhibiting signs of an allergic reaction when this medication was given to the child by staff. There is no information in the child's file indicating administrating this medication. The medication was administrated to the child twice however there is no Request for Administration of Medication form indicating the medication was administrated. Upon discussion with staff, it was stated, when a child is exhibiting signs of an allergic reaction, parents are contacted for them to decide on the next steps.

Observation. LO observed the corners of some of the sleeping mats are worn at the edges with the seams fraying. LO observed children's beddings are placed in bags however they are stored in a way that they are touching posing a risk of cross contamination

LO reviewed a sampling of children's files: - Several departure times are not being captured - Several children do not have date of enrolment in the community care facility - 2 children's records do not have medical insurance plan numbers - 3 children's records do not have medical practitioner contact information - 3 children's records indicate the parent(s) have listed themselves as emergency contacts 2 children's records indicate they have allergies however the staff are unaware of this information. 1 child has an allergy that requires an epi pen however the emergency consent card states that the child does not have an allergy.

LO reviewed all staff files: - 1 staff did not have any documentation - 1 staff did not have copies of any diplomas, certificates or other evidence of their training and skills - 1 staff did not have documentation to support their certificate was verified using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry.

Observation. previous CRC from RCMP was not in file, all staff had CRC's from Victoria. But, two of the staff have expired CRC's.

Observation. As noted in previous reports, LO has observed ongoing maintenance throughout the facility, it was observed that there remains some items that require repair or regular cleaning - wood exposed in bathroom, stall dividers and step stools, chalk boards and grate in wall of building in playground. LO recommend a maintenance log be kept to ensure staff are bringing forward and following up on repairs and cleaning.

Observation. When LO arrived, staff person stated that one of the staff had just called in sick, and they are aware that they are over ratio with a total of 36 children with 4 staff. Staff stated that another staff is on their way and should be at the facility any moment. While the staff did arrive soon after, the centre not only was out of ratio, but they also shared their practice of bringing the two groups (24 / 16) children together for snack (and lunch times). Therefore they are also over ratio for their group capacity during the above noted times.

Observation. LO observed that there are some cupboards (lower) that have broken latches (in kitchen and bathroom) with items that could be hazardous to the children. There were also shelving in the hallway and in the bathroom that are not secured and have items that could fall on children or become a hazard.
