  Furniture or equipment for sleeping is used by only one child at a time, is clean and comfortable, and is appropriate for the size, age and development of the children intended to use it. [CCLR Sec. 15(2)]

  Observation. Licensing observed in two classrooms, sleeping mats are stored with bedding touching posing a risk of cross contamination.

  All indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are suitable for the age and development of the children, safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair. [CCLR Sec. 16(4)]

  Observation. Licensing observed in the outdoor play space: - limited materials for children to play with. - both sandboxes were closed. A staff stated the sandbox is only available to children when it is sunny. Discussion took place to have materials accessible to children during outdoor play.

  For each child requiring extra support, the licensee keeps a current care plan showing the required information. [CCLR Sec. 58(1)(2)]

  Observation. Licensing observed: - 1 child requires a medication as indicated by staff however their emergency records do not reflect this information - 2 children have allergies with information provided in their emergency card and posted in the classroom. Upon review of the information, there are discrepancies between the two sets of information. Discussion took place to ensure all information is captured and that information is updated and reflected in all records.

  Observation. Licensing reviewed children's records: - 2 records do not have medical practitioner information - 1 record does not have medical insurance plan number - 1 record indicates the parent(s) listed themselves as emergency contacts.

  Prior to employing staff the manager has met with each person and has obtained the appropriate documentation. [CCLR Sec. 19(1)]

  Observation. Licensing reviewed all staff records: - 2 do not have documentation to support their certificate was verified using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry. - 2 do not have evidence that they complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs. - 3 have criminal records addressed to other organizations. Licensing reviewed all volunteer records: - 2 do not have evidence that they complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs. - 2 do not have character references.

  The entire outdoor play area is enclosed and constructed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and ensures that children are free of harm. [CCLR Sec. 16(3)(a)(b)]

  Observation. Licensing observed in the outside playground a mound of dirt covered by artificial turf and an electrical box on the top of the mound. On the wall were electrical wires covered by conduit plastic covering. Licensing is concerned children have access to the electrical box and wires, which could cause a serious injury.

  Observation. Licensing observed the following: - when reviewing the children's records their photos or digital images are to be updated to readily identify a child in an emergency. - one child was missing medical practitioner contact number - one child was missing the medical insurance plan number - one child was missing an emergency contact number

  Observation. Licensing observed two staff files did not include staff references as per the legislation.

  Implementation of the fire drill system is practiced at least once each month, and implementation of the emergency plan is practiced at least once each year. [CCLR Sec. 22(2)(b)(c)]

  Observation. Licensing observed that the staff had recorded a fire drill system practice at least once each month, but had not implemented an emergency plan practiced at least once each year.

  Observation. Originally found out of compliance on December 1, 2023. Licensing observed the 2 children's records were missing a medical practitioner and one file is missing a medical insurance plan number.

  Observation. Licensing observed that the fire extinguishers need to be serviced.

  All persons over the age of 12 that are ordinarily present on the premises while children are present are of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for each person. [CCLR Sec 20]

  Observation. Licensing has been advised that they are waiting on one of the criminal records checks. Licensing has advised the manager to contact the CRC to find out what can be done to ensure the CRC is provided asap.
