    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: - The carpet in the nap room was in need of vacuuming. - Discarded toys are kept over the fence in the bush. - The outdoor play area has patches of soil visible, making the area dusty. - The grass in the outdoor play area is overgrown and the area is in need of more resilient surfacing. This is a repeat contravention from routine inspection #SVAA-D98NLY dated Sep. 18, 2024.

    Corrective action. The Licensee will address the contravention.

    A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

    Observation. The following was observed: - The fire extinguisher was last serviced on Sep. 11, 2024. The Manager said that she recently serviced the fire extinguisher but there is no evidence of this. - The emergency supplies did not contain enough food for 72 hours.

    Corrective action. The Manager said that she will send Licensing evidence of the fire extinguisher being serviced and will add more food in the emergency supplies.

    A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

    Observation. The fire drill was not recorded for the months of May until August. The Manager said that fire drill was completed but was not recorded.

    Corrective action. The Manager will practice and record fire drills monthly.

    Observation. A resident of the home and the Licensee's CRCs were expired.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that a current CRC has been obtained for all persons ordinarily present in the facility.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. The following was observed: - The window ledge by the door and part of the baseboards in the play area had dust and dirt particles on them. - In the cubby area, paint has peeled off the wall from removing photos that were taped on the wall. Some parts of the wall in the play area are in need of painting. - Parts of the carpet in the play area and in the nap room are stained and in need of washing. The Licensee explained that this is done every month but the stains are difficult to get rid of. Licensing discussed the importance of a reasonable level of cleanliness especially in the areas of the home where care is being provided. - In the outdoor play area, part of the bottom of the chain link fence has curled up and was not secured to the ground.

    Corrective action. Please ensure the fixtures within the facility are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Upon inspection of the bathroom, the cabinet under the sink was found to be unlocked which contained air fresheners and other personal items.

    Corrective action. Please ensure children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Upon inspection of the outdoor play area, there was an unraveled hose across the stairs which poses as a tripping hazard.

    Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Upon review of the fire drill records, the Licensee was unable to produce records from January 2021 to present. The Licensee explained that they are done monthly and are recorded but could not locate the records.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that current fire drill records are available for review during inspections.
