    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following in the outdoor play area: - All four wheels of a green toy bike were broken. - A toy dump truck was in disrepair. Licensing discussed the importance of reviewing all toys and equipment indoors are outdoors to ensure that they are in good repair as broken toys can pose hazards to children.

    Corrective action. The Manager will discard of the broken toys and review the other toys to ensure they are in good repair.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following in the outdoor play area: - A rose bush with overgrown stems and thorns were accessible to children. - A decorative garden fence was bent over and poses as a tripping hazard.

    Corrective action. The Manager will address the contravention.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. In the outdoor play area, the following was observed: - The lock on the gate was broken. - There are overgrown grass and branches around the outdoor play area. - The outdoor play area is in need of general cleaning and sweeping. - There are construction materials at one end of the play area in the grass.

    Corrective action. The Manager said that she is in the process of completing clean up of the outdoor play area and will complete clean up of the other areas.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.

    Observation. Care card numbers were not obtained for 4 children's files.

    Corrective action. The Manager said that she will ask the parents for this information and will include in their file.

    Observation. The following was observed: - In the outdoor play area, a wood frame connected to the deck is unsecured. The lattice on the wood frame has been removed and poses as a tripping hazard. - The toilet paper holder in the washroom has rusted and poses as a hazard to children.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

    Observation. Licensing inspected the outdoor play area and the following was observed: - There were pieces of wood planks used to cover the space between the fence and the ground. One plank had a sharp piece of wood that was exposed. - Some outdoor toys appeared dirty and old, although the Manager said that these are cleaned and left outside to dry. Discussion was had regarding the inventory of toys and discarding toys that are no longer needed.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that the facility is clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

    Observation. The contents of the emergency supplies were inspected and it was noted that there is not enough food and water for 72 hours. The Manager said that she has more water in her vehicle, but Licensing explained that this may not always be accessible in the event of an emergency. Licensing also suggested using a luggage to store these items for easy access.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that there is enough food and water for 72 hours.

    Observation. The fire drill records were reviewed and it was found that Sep 2023 was not recorded, although the Manager explained that the fire drill was completed.

    Corrective action. Please ensure fire drill records are recorded monthly.

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): A cabinet in the washroom containing cleaning supplies was not locked and a container of Lysol wipes were on the kitchen counter, accessible to the children. This is a repeat contravention.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Upon observation of the outdoor play area, the following was noted: - A waste bin was overflowing with garbage. The Manager said that she was going to empty the bin out today. - A lattice/screen panel was broken and needed to be replaced. The Manager said that she will take this down completely. - Gaps below the fence were covered by pieces of wood and logs. The Manager said that she will be getting more wood pieces to cover the rest of the gaps. - The mesh screen door has tears in some areas and is in need of repair. The Manager said that she will replace this. Observations inside the facility: - The nap room is cluttered and a crib was observed to have the bed on the ground, unsupported by the frame. The Manager said that children like to pull on the frame which moves the metal hinge, thus the bed part drops to the floor. The Manager said that the crib is older and she will be replacing the crib. - Areas of the facility were observed to be in need of sweeping. The Manager corrected this after it was noted. - General cleanliness of the facility and clutter was discussed with the Manager. The Manager said that she cleans the facility daily and that during transitions from outside to inside, the children are frequently bringing in dirt. The importance of keeping a standard of general cleanliness was discussed. This is a repeat contravention.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that the facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Upon inspection of the play area, it was found that there were dirt particles on the floor and in the bathroom floor. The Licensee explained that this is due to the weather and children wearing outdoor shoes inside. The Licensee stated that general cleaning, vacuuming and mopping of the play area is done at least once a day.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that the facility is clean while children are in attendance.
