  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. Licensing observed uncovered outlets and batteries within reach of children.

  Corrective action. Manager stated the batteries will be removed and outlets covered.

  Observation. Licensing observed a cabinet containing bleach and cleaning supplies unlocked, within reach of children.

  Corrective action. Manager stated the locks will be checked to ensure they are secure.

  Observation. Licensing observed two medications expired.

  Corrective action. Manager to ensure all medication is updated by expiry.

  A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

  Observation. Manager was unable to provide Fire Drill and Emergency Drill records. The Manager said that they are practiced monthly but were not recorded.

  Corrective action. Manager will practice and record fire drills monthly.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

  Observation. Licensing observed one staff certificate validation missing.

  Corrective action. Manager to ensure all validations are updated and valid in staff files.

  Observation. A child's EpiPen expired in May 2022.

  Corrective action. Ensure children's medication is up to date.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.

  Observation. Children's files were reviewed and care card numbers were not obtained for multiple children's files.

  Corrective action. Ensure children's files are complete.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The sign in/out sheet was reviewed and three children were not signed in.

  Corrective action. Ensure children are signed in/out daily.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

  Observation. Children's files were reviewed and multiple children's files were missing a doctor's name and information.

  Corrective action. Ensure children's files are complete.

  A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (a) the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support, as made by health care professionals.

  Observation. Children's allergies were posted in a prominent place however, no care plan was available for three children requiring extra support.

  Corrective action. Ensure that children requiring extra support have a current care plan.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

  Observation. A CRC was not obtained for one staff.

  Corrective action. Ensure staff files are complete.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

  Observation. Upon inspection of the staff files, it was found that one did not have their ECEA certificate validated. The Manager attempted to complete the validation during inspection, but the website produced an error message.

  Corrective action. Please ensure that ECE/A certificates are validated using the system maintained by the ECE Registry.
