• HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE

  A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During inpsection Licenisng observed hand hygiene practices for children were not followed before eating routine. Licensing pointed this out to the manager, and the children's hands were washed immediately. The manager said that handwashing was missed due to a busy morning. Licensing discussed the importance of washing children's hands before and after eating.

  Corrective action. Manager said children hands will be washed before and after eating routines.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

  Observation. One staff file contained a valid criminal record clearance letter addressed to another agency.

  Corrective action. The manager said that CRC applications for the staff member will be submitted to the Criminal Record Review Sharing Program, and a copy of the CRC results will be kept in staff 's file.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.

  Observation. During the inspection, one staff file and one volunteer file were reviewed. References were not obtained for the volunteer, who is a family member of the manager. For the staff, the manager stated references had been verified; however, no documentation was available in the file to confirm this.

  Corrective action. The Manager will document the date of verification in the staff file, and obtain and verify references for the volunteer.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Immunization status was not obtained for the volunteer.

  Corrective action. The Manager obtained evidence of the volunteer's immunization status during inspection.
