  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. In the outdoor area: -One fence post was leaning inward and unstable when touched. -Rust was observed on the outdoor bench armrests and legs, and on the metal shed at children’s height. -Several wooden slats on the west side of the yard showed visible rot and decay along the bottom edges. -The white tarp within children’s reach had visible moss and mildew buildup.

    Corrective action. Manager will submit a plan to Licensing to address the above items.

  • POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

    A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

    Observation. There were insufficient supplies in the emergency kit, and some of the food items were expired.

    Corrective action. The manager said more supplies, unexpired food and water will be added to the emergency kit.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.

    Observation. Licensing reviewed four children's files, one child was missing MSP number.

    Corrective action. Manager said parent will be contacted to obtain this information and child's file will be updated.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

    Observation. Four children files were reviewed; one file had doctor's name but was missing doctor phone number

    Corrective action. Manager said parent will be contacted to obtain this information.

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

    Observation. Licensing reviewed three staff files, two staff files were missing evidence of their ECE certificates verification from the Early Childhood Educator Registry. The Manager said that the certificates were verified but had not printed the validation for the staff files.

    Corrective action. The Manager will validate both staff's ECE certificate and keep a copy of the results in their files.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. During inspection Licensing observed: - There is a significant build up of dust and debris; along with several children hair accessories and toys underneath the two mesh benches that covers the baseboard heaters in the play area. -Outdoor -Several wooden fence panels are showing signs of rot and disrepair, with gaps beneath some sections. There are several nails exposed.

    Corrective action. Please ensure the area underneath the mesh benches is cleaned regularly and ensure that children do not have access to exposed nails and gaps beneath the fence panels while using the outdoor area.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that each piece of furniture or equipment for sleeping (b) is clean and comfortable.

    Observation. During Inspection Licensing observed: -In the nap room - doors of the cupboards installed on the wall were not secured. Books,binders and various toys were stored in them. Licensing was concerned that in an event of an earthquake there is potential of these items falling on children during nap time. -Closet door in the nap room was not fully secured. Licensing observed it had a broken child proof lock and upon touch the door knob came off the door easily. -Staff name tag with attached lanyard was accessible to children in the play area. Manager removed this during inspection.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees

    Observation. Licensing reviewed three staff files. A record of the person's work history was not obtained for one staff.

    Corrective action. Please ensure all staff have a current resume on file before they start work.

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Upon review of two staff records Licensing observed one satff record did not have evidence of Immunization status . During inpsection this staff provided evidence of their Immunization status.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that all staff records are complete prior to the staff working at the facility.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: -Metal wire mesh covering the baseboard heater in the kitchen area was torn and the torn edges were curled in several areas. -The door to the boiler room opened by itself while licensing was speaking to the manager. Manager stated that the child proof door lock to the boiler room door had recently broken.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the facility is in good repair while chldren are in attendance.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Upon inspection, there was a tall wooden shelf in the naproom that was not mounted to the wall. It rocked when shoved.Staff stated that children use this room not only for napping but for gross motor activities also- therefore the unmounted shelf poses a fall hazard. Upon inspection of the nap mats, the bedding was stored together touching each other that poses a cleanliness issue,

    Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.
