- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.
Observation. During inspection Licensing observed the following in the infant classroom: - Foam play blocks cannot be sanitized effectively as they are showing signs of wear and tear & the duct tape used to cover these tears is peeling off at the edges. - Paint on the lower walls of the lunch area, within children's reach is peeling in several areas, exposing the drywall underneath.
Corrective action. Manager said the duct tape will be replaced and there is a plan to repaint the room during one of the long weekends.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. Licensing observed the following during today's inspection: - Stapler was accessible to infant and toddlers in the multi age. Staff removed it during inspection. -In the infant and toddler nap room items are stored on the wall shelving that could potentially fall off these shelves in the event of an earthquake. This is a repeat contravention from the last routine inspection # SMIA-CH8MDQ dated 11 August 2022. -Wooden shelf in the multi age room was unsecured to the wall. - In the infant and toddler room - Edges of foam climbing blocks and a bean bag chair is showing signs of wear and tear and cannot be sanitized effectively. -Lower slats of the blinds in the infant and toddler playroom and nap room are bent and are accessible to children.
Corrective action. A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment]. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): In the infant and toddler room fire drill was conducted in September 2023 but had not been recorded. Staff corrected this during inspection.
Corrective action. Please ensure that fire and emergency drills are documented
13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.
Observation. Licensing reviewed 5 staff files. 2 files were missing character references and evidence of reference being checked. Manager said that she did verify them but did not make a note of it.
Corrective action. Please ensure that character references are obtained and verified for each employee before they start employment.
12050 - CCLR s.19(1)(b) - STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.
Observation. Immunization status was not obtained for two staff. Manager obtained immunization status for one staff during inspection.
Corrective action. Please ensure staff files are complete.

A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. During inspection Licensing observed : - In the multi age program and infant and toddler naproom items were stored on the wall shelving that could potentially fall off these shelves in the event of an earthquake -Several toys were stored in hallway in the infant and toddler program which serves as an emergency escape route. -In the infant toddler classroom a play tent was tied with a string onto the door handle making it difficult to open the door.The staff explained that the play tent was stabilized by being fastened to the door handle Education was offered not to block doors and hallways to allow quick and easy exit in case of emergency. Staff corrected this during inspection.
Corrective action. A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): In the Infant bathroom medicated crème was stored in a basket accessible to children. Manager removed it during the inspection.
Corrective action. Ensure that medicated crème are inaccessible to all children.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation. Licensing reviewed five children files and one child's file was missing doctor's name and phone number.
Corrective action. Please ensure all children's records are complete.
