    Observation. Hot water in the Group child care (30mths- school age) washroom measured at 54.2 Celsius.

    A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

    Observation. In the School age program fire drill in February 2024 and annual emergency drill in 2023 was conducted but had not been recorded. This is a repeat contravention from routine inspection # SMIA-CQ8SP2 dated 24 March 2023.

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Upon a review of seven staff records, Licensing observed that one staff's ECE certificate has not been verified through the early childhood educator registry. Manager validated the certificate during inspection and showed Licensing the evidence of verification.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that any staff ECE certificate renewed & issued by the ECE Registry is verified through ECE registry.

    The licensee must record compliance with the care plan of a child requiring extra support in respect of each of the following that are applicable to the child: (a) any therapeutic diet given to the child by the licensee.

    Observation. One child is on a therapeutic diet. Staff and Licensee contact were unsure about the child's specific diet directions and instructions.This is a repeat contravention from routine inspection # WBET-BMJLV5 dated 9 March 2020.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that all staff are aware of and understand why children are required to eat certain foods, as well as any symptoms associated with the therapeutic diet and what staff should do if any symptoms occur.

  • MEDICATION

    If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.

    Observation. Medication for one child is in the medication box. There are no written instructions letting staff know when to administer the medication.

    Corrective action. Please make sure there are written instructions to let staff know when to administer the medication.

    The licensee must record compliance with the care plan of a child requiring extra support in respect of each of the following that are applicable to the child: (a) any therapeutic diet given to the child by the licensee.

    Observation. Several children have dietary restrictions. Staff stated the children will not have an allergic reaction to the foods if ingested but it was unclear why some listed foods were not to be eaten (eg food sensitivity or cultural preference).

    Corrective action. Please ensure staff are aware of why children are not to eat certain foods and in the case of a food sensitivity list the symptoms that may occur and what staff may need to do.

    Observation. Care plans for two children have not been reviewed during the past twelve months.

One staff criminal record check has an expiry date of July 2018 and one staff is listed as having a criminal record check issued in a province other than BC that has no expiry date.

    Corrective action. Please make sure all staff have a valid criminal record check issued through the Criminal Records Review Agency of BC before they start work.
