- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. The following was observed: > There was a bin of standing water with orbeez in the bathtub of the washroom that children use. > The fridge temperature was 7 degrees Celsius.
Corrective action. At the time of the inspection the Licensee removed the bin with water and advised that moving forward, there will not be any standing water in areas out of line of supervision. The Licensee also changed the fridge temperature and will monitor to ensure that the fridge temp has reduced to a temp between 1 to 4 degrees Celsius.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation. There was no record of last year's yearly emergency evacuation drill.
Corrective action. The Licensee said that she will ensure moving forward to keep a record of the yearly emergency evacuation drill.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation. 2 children's records out of the 4 reviewed were missing record of immunization status.
Corrective action. The Licensee requested a record of the children's immunization statuses from the parents.

- HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE
A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During inspection Licensing observed one child's hands was not washed with soap and water before eating snack. Licensing brought this to Manager's attention; who immediately washed child's hands.
Corrective action. Manager said children's hands will be washed before and after eating snack.
15030 - CCLR s.46(1) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation. Licensing reviewed five children's files and noted one child's file was missing immunization status, with documentation from 2022 showing communication with the family regarding this.
Corrective action. Manager said parent will be contacted to obtain this information and child's file will be updated.
19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Five children files were reviewed; one child' s file was missing date of enrolment. Manager corrected this during inspection.
Corrective action. Manager said children files will be checked to make sure they are complete before they start attending the daycare.

Observation. The number of children participating in the program exceeded the facility's maximum capacity of 8.
Corrective action. A licensee must not exceed the maximum capacity as per the facility licence.

Observation. Parents are required to send a text message to the manager before arriving at the daycare and are not allowed inside.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. During inspection Licensing observed: -Walls & door surfaces at children's level in the indoor play area, kitchen and bathroom had visible old dried stains that needed to be cleaned. -Few sections in the indoor hallway entrance leading to children play area at children's level had been plastered; but not sanded. Manager said this will be fixed by the weekend.
Corrective action. Please ensure that the facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation. Upon review of staff file Licensing observed that, while one staff's CRC was not expired, it was not addressed to this facility. The Manager informed that the sharing process has been initiated.
Corrective action. Please ensure any criminal record checks from another facility are obtained through the sharing program of the Criminal Record Review Agency.

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During inspection two plastic bags were accessible to children in the play area. Licensing expressed concern that a child can easily suffocate if these items are pulled over their head. Manager removed the plastic bags during inspection.
Corrective action. Ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
11200 - CCLR s.17 - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (f) a log of minor accidents, illnesses and unexpected events involving children, that did not require medical attention and were not reportable incidents described in Schedule H.
Observation. During review of the minor incident log book, Licensing observed that there were no entries since January 2022.Maintaining a regular log of minor accidents was discussed with the manager during routine inspection # SMIA-C79UYG dated 27 Sept 2021
Corrective action. Please ensure all minor incidents including illnesses, injuries and unusual events are recorded, dated and indicated that the parents were made aware at the time of the minor incident.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During inspection review of today's attendance records one child's arrival time was missing. Manager corrected this during inspection.
Corrective action. Please ensure that children's attendance records demonstrate time of arrival and departure.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. During inspection licensing observed following : ·In the main play room staff personal purse, backpack side pocket with isopropyl alcohol stored in it, pen with a detachable cap, small rock were found on the carpet accessible to children. Manager removed all these items during inspection. ·Various bottles of spices and cooking ingredients were stored in a kitchen cupboard accessible to all children. ·Manager used a paper towel to remove food leftovers from the morning snack off the highchair tray. This highchair tray was not cleaned and sanitized prior to placing a child on this high chair. ·In the nap room a card board box was stored on top of a pop up room storage. Licensing was concerned that this box stored on an unstable surface posing as a fall hazard on children while they are sleeping on the nap mats. Manager removed the box during the inspection. ·A large wooden table was stored in the hallway. Licensing was concerned the heavy table might fall on children as this hallway is a part of the emergency exit route. Manager stated that she was planning to remove the table and store it away from the children. ·Fridge temperature measured at 6.9 degrees. Manager lowered the temperature of the fridge to 4 degree during the inspection.
Corrective action. Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation. During inspection licesning observed earthquake supplies were not sufficient for the children enrolled.
Corrective action. Ensure earthquake supplies are sufficient for the children enrolled.

Observation. Licensing observed the following: - 2 heavy cabinet doors in the back room were not secured on hinges and accessible to children in care - A small heavy piece of metal equipment was used as a door stop. The Licensee removed this while Licensing was present.
Corrective action. Ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Observation. Licensing noted there were no records of fire drills recorded for January, February and March 2020. The Licensee said they were practiced, however they were not recorded.
Corrective action. Ensure fire drills are practiced once each month and are recorded.

Observation. Licensing noted there were no records of emergency plan practices. The Licensee said they are practiced, however have not been recorded.
