A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

Observation. In the outdoor play area one fence panel is missing a wooden slat.

Corrective action. Licensee said the fence gap will be closed off till it is repaired.

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

Observation. During inspection Licensing observed the following in the outdoor play area: -A large gap under one fence panel and several smaller gaps under other fence panels -Fence is showing signs of wear and tear with one wooden slat missing in a panel.

Corrective action. Manager said the gaps will be closed off and the fence will be repaired in Spring.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (i) a photograph or digital image of the child, and other information that can be used to readily identify the child in an emergency.

Observation. Licensing reviewed six children's files. Five files were missing a photo or digital image of the child.

Corrective action. Manager said children photos will be obtained and added to the files.

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

Observation. During inspection Licensing observed the following items are accessible to children in the outdoor play area: -2 snow shovels -Metal garden tools and garden rakes -Lawn mower Outdoor maintenance plan was discussed with the manager during routine inspection # SMIA-CKXQCE dated 7 November 2022.

Corrective action. Please ensure children donot have access to garden equipment and supplies in the outdoor play area.

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During inspection in the indoor play area Licensing observed: -Container of laundry detergent and affresh washing machine cleaner pod accessible to children. -Washing dryer in use was accessible to children. Manager removed these two items and closed the door of the laundry area during the inspection.

Corrective action. A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

A licensee must ensure that children have at all times immediate access to an employee who (a) holds a valid first aid and CPR certificate, provided on completion of a course that meets the requirements of Schedule C.

Observation. Manager’s first aid certification expired on September 06, 2022. She is planning to register for first aid course in the first week of December.

Corrective action. Please ensure that children have immediate access to someone who has a valid first aid.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

Observation. Manager's criminal record check has expired.This is a repeat contravention from routine inspection # SMIA-C7JSQE dated 6 October 2021.

Corrective action. Please ensure Manager has a valid criminal record check from the criminal records review program in Victoria.

Observation. Manager’s criminal record check was expired. Manager was unaware that criminal record check was due for renewal.

Corrective action. Please ensure valid criminal record check is on file from the criminal records review program in Victoria.

The licensee must not permit a person over the age of 12 to be ordinarily present on the premises of a community care facility while children are present, unless the person is of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for that person.

Observation. Two residents who live in the home require a valid criminal record check through criminal records review program in Victoria. Manager stated that these two residents currently have a valid criminal record check through their employment. Manager will either book an appointment or apply online to renew the criminal record checks through criminal records review program in Victoria.

Corrective action. Please ensure all residents over the age of 12 who live in the home have a current criminal record check.

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed the following: A piece of metal with sharp edges containing large screws, and a tall metal rake were leaning on fencing in the carport accessible to children. The Licensee removed the items while Licensing was on site.

Corrective action. Ensure children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.

Observation. Licensing noted the water temperature measured 53 degrees Celsius.

Corrective action. Ensure that heated water accessible to children is no more than 49 degrees Celsius.
