- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. Indoor area -Chipped paint observed throughout the classrooms at child's height, exposing wood/drywall underneath. -Floor moldings have a buildup of dirt, debris and are chipped in some areas; bathroom molding in the out-of-school program is broken in two sections, exposing underlying material. -Door leading to the secondary exit from the out-of-school program has mud buildup on the interior side. -Toilet brush handles have rust buildup. -Two window blinds are in disrepair. Manager said there is a plan to replace them. Outdoor play area -Rust buildup on all sensory table legs & on all soccer net stands.
Corrective action. Manager said Licensing will be provided with a plan to address the above items.

A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation. The fire extinguishers in both classrooms are past their servicing due date of 24 July 2025.
Corrective action. Manager said both fire extiguishers will be serviced.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (b) located so as not to block or hamper an exit in the case of fire or other emergency.
Observation. During inspection licensing observed secondary exit was partially hampered with several stored metal fences.This is a repeat contravention from inspection #SMIA-CH6TAU dated 10 August 2022 & inspection # SMIA-CK7NLY dated 14 October 2022.
Corrective action. Please ensure that all emergency exits are clear of equipment, furniture, and supplies that could obstruct or hamper an exit in the event of a fire or other emergency.
11090 - CCLR s.15(1)(b) - STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.
Observation. Evidence of reference being checked was not available for two staff.
Corrective action. Ensure that character references are obtained and verified for each employee before they start employment.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation) Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Upon a review of five staff records, Licensing observed that two staff's certificate has not been verified through the early childhood educator registry.During the inspection, staff validated these two certificates, and Licensing was able to review them. This is a repeat contravention from routine inpsection #SMIA-C44QVR dated 18 June 2021.
Corrective action. Please ensure ECE Certificates are verified and evidence of the verification is available before a staff begins employment.

Observation. During a review of the fire drill records, Licensing observed for this year the months of January, April and September fire drills were not practiced.
Corrective action. : Please ensure fire drills are practiced and recorded monthly.

A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (a) the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support, as made by health care professionals.
Observation. Two children with additional needs are missing a care plan.
Corrective action. Please ensure there is a care plan written and in place for each child who requires extra support.
19210 - CCLR s.58(1)(a) - STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation. 2 out of 5 staff files reviewed were missing valid criminal record check.
Corrective action. All staff must have a valid criminal record check in their file before they start employment. Manager stated that criminal record have already been applied. Please send written confirmation to licensing when results of criminal record checks are received.
