  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed that the mats and bedsheets of the children are stored in a way that the bedsheets are touching, located in the nap room.

    Corrective action. Ensure that these items are not touching each other when not in use.

    Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: - 6 to 7 children (first and second day of inspection) were left with one ECE staff and a staff with an RA designation (waiting for ECE certificate and currently taking an IT program - as said by staff and licensee). - A staff with an ECE certificate opened the facility with 4 children in care. This is a repeat contravention on inspection report: #CGEE-C53ME5 July 16, 2021.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the staff to children ratio follows Schedule E.

  • POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

    A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

    Observation. After discussing the matter with the licensee and staff, the fire extinguisher could not be found in the facility. Furthermore, upon discussing with a staff, the emergency supplies kit will need to be carried out when conducting drills going forward. This is a repeat contravention on inspection report: #CGEE-CEHRWZ May 17, 2022 (regarding the fire extinguisher not available on-site).

    Corrective action. Ensure that the fire extinguisher is available at the facility. The emergency supply items for children are to be taken with staff when conducting drills with the children.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

    Observation. Licensing observed that on July 5th, 4 children were signed in on the attendance sheet, when there were 7 children present at the facility. A staff said that the parents sign their children in and out. This is a repeat contravention and was contravened on report: #CGEE-C53ME5 July 16, 2021 / #CGEE-CEHRWZ May 17, 2022.

    Corrective action. Staff are to ensure all children are signed in and out daily (time of arrival / departure), and children are to be recorded as absent if they are not at the facility.

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed that one staff did not have their CRC on file.

    Corrective action. Ensure that staff files are complete and available on-site.

    Observation. Plastic bags were easily accessible to children in the bathroom drawers.

    Observation. In the bathroom, 3 small hand towels were hanging on the wall (some of them were touching) & 1 larger towel was hanging above these towels. There are 8 children registered.

    Corrective action. Cloth towels must be removed & replaced w/ paper towel for sanitary hand drying.

    Corrective action. CCFL & the corporation director discussed ways to come into compliance.
