    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: - stroller with peeling material - walls in high traffic areas in children's classrooms that do not appear clean - foam climbing equipment that is torn, exposing large sections of foam - not able to be cleaned

    Corrective action. The manager removed the foam climbing equipment during the inspection and confirmed that the walls will be cleaned and the stroller will be repaired or removed.

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. Licensing observed that the following items were accessible to children: - decorative snow; labeled as hazardous - medicated diaper cream

    Corrective action. The decorative snow was removed from children's reach during the inspection. The manager confirmed that all of the diaper creams will be stored out of reach.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: - patio swing with large tears in the outdoor play space - plywood cover for a sand box with large splinters on the side - broken jagged plastic lid for a toy bin in the outdoor play space - a toy shelf with a loose plywood backing that could pose a pinching hazard; the same shelf is secured to a wall and the screws have come out from the wall

    Corrective action. The manager removed the lid during the inspection and the Licensee confirmed the following: - the swing will be removed - the splinters will be sanded - the shelf will be repaired

Licensing observed the following; - cleaning supplies under a counter in a school age program; accessible to children - a heavy wooden armoire that is unsecured in a school age program; posing a risk in the event of an earthquake if it were to fall - an unplugged, hot clothes iron on a shelf in a school age program; accessible to children

    Corrective action. During the inspection, the cleaning supplies and the clothes iron were removed. The Licensee confirmed that the armoire will be secured or removed.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The carpet in the school age room is fraying and poses a tripping hazard. Laundry detergent was observed accessible to children. This was moved at the time of the inspection. A large dome climber was installed located next to a fence and a cement walkway. There is no resilient surfacing located underneath or beside the climber.

    Corrective action. Ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times. Information was shared regarding the Director of Licensing Safe Play Spaces.

    Observation. The following was observed: -The baseboard heater in Toddler 2 room was duct taped and broken -A carpet in the school age room was ripped -bedding was touching each other in more than 1 program -toilet seats and diapering mats were stored on the floor in more than 1 program -a material cloth was used to clean the diaper change mat and placed on the bleach solution to use again -nap beds were stored in the Casa 1/2 washroom -walls in multiple classrooms showed signs of wear and tear with exposed gyprock.

    Corrective action. Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

    A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.

    Observation. Licensing observed all four sinks in classroom Casa 4 over the temperature of 49 degrees Celsius. The sinks measured at 64.9, 65, 65.5 and 59 degrees Celsius. The hallway sink was measured at 60 degrees Celsius. All sinks were accessible to children in care.

    Corrective action. Ensure that water is heated to no more than 49 degrees Celsius.

    Observation. Eight care plans were reviewed and one care plan required a review on January 29,2020. .

    Corrective action. Please ensure care plans are reviewed annually to ensure information regarding response required is current. The Manager stated this care plan would be reviewed when the child next attends the facility.

    Observation. Attendance record at time of inspection for the Preschool program was not complete as 9 children were in attendance and record staed 7 children were present. Records for the GCC (under 36 months) were missing time of departure for some dates.

    Corrective action. Please ensure attendance records are complete as per requirements, and kept current throughout the day if children arrive or depart at different times.
