  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed children's snacks and lunches left out on the table for approximately 1 hour. Some food was perishable and not stored in the fridge or insulated lunch bag.

    Corrective action. Ensure food is stored at appropriate temperatures to prevent food borne illnesses.

  • MEDICATION

    If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (b) readily accessible to employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed emergency medication was not readily accessible to employees.

    Corrective action. Ensure there is a system to maintain emergency medication.

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation) Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed an ECE certificate was not verified. The Director validated the certificate on site.

  • HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE

    A licensee, other than a licensee who provides a care program described as either Preschool (30 Months to School Age) or Group Child Care (School Age), must have in a community care facility a sturdy surface for changing diapers, located outside the food preparation area, next to (a) a covered container for soiled clothing.

    Observation. There was no covered container for soiled clothing, i.e. pull ups and diapers within the washroom.

    Corrective action. Ensure that a garbage can with a cover is available in the diapering area ( washroom).

    Observation. LO observed and discussed the following with the Manager: - Facility attendance record does not indicate the time of arrival and departure for each child.

    Corrective action. Ensure that all children files are complete.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Inspection of the outdoor play space found that the sand has significantly eroded in the sand play area. It appears that a section of the sand area near the fence has been dug out leaving a space that a small animal could go under. The manager stated that this area gets filled in often near the fence and was filled in during inspection. The sand area no loner has a cover. The sand is spread over a large portion of the play yard.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the facility is clean and in good repair
