A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Observation. - Childrens beds stored approximately 7ft in height which is accessible to the children - Large circular tables stored in the same area as the beds also accessible to the children The Manager said the current dividers which are used to the secure off the area are broken and new ones have been ordered.

Corrective action. Submit a corrective action plan.

Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.

Observation. Currently a total of 5 children attending the facility who are under 36 months of age. The facility is permitted to only have 2 children between 30 to 36 months of age.

Corrective action. Submit a corrective action plan.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.

Observation. A selection of staff files were reviewed. Out of the 3 reviewed, 1 file did not contain character references.

Corrective action. Ensure staff records are complete.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation) Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): A selection of staff files were reviewed. Out of the 3 reviewed, 1 file did not contain a verified Early Childhood Educator certificate.

Corrective action. The Manager corrected this during the inspection.
