  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. - Diaper change mat has a rip, creating a surface that cannot be cleaned and disinfected properly. - High touch surface such as the bathroom cabinetry and doors are full of debris and finger prints. - Mould is growing in the sink.

  A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

  Observation. The fire extinguisher is overdue for servicing.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

  Observation. The arrival and departure times for school age children isn't being recorded accurately.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  Despite subsection (2)(a) and (d), a licensee who provides a care program described as Child-minding must do all of the following: (a) if applicable, record that a child does not have a medical insurance plan number or medical practioner.

  Observation. All children's files were reviewed. Out of the 4 reviewed, 2 were missing information for a medical practitioner.

  Corrective action. Ensure information for the medical practioner or a walk in clinic is on file.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation) Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed a ECE certificate that was not validated through the system maintained by the ECE Registry. The Licensee validated the certificate on site.

  Corrective action. Ensure all certificates are validated.

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. The following was observed outside: -stairs to the upper deck are accessible to children The following was observed inside: -cleaning solutions accessible under the sink in the washroom used by children -bleach and water spray on the counter in the washroom accessible to children -used towels hanging on the towel rack in the washroom used by children

  Corrective action. Please ensure all of the above are not accessible to children

  A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.

  Observation. Fire drills recorded up to March 2023 only.

  Corrective action. Please ensure fire drills are practised monthly and documented to show they have been done.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. - Fridge temperature not maintained between o and 4 degrees celcius. Fridge temperature measured at 7 degrees celcius. - Plastic bags were stored in unsecured drawers and in the kitchen cabinets.

  Corrective action. Ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. - Furniture, equipment, and fixtures were in disrepair, including the nap room door and the kitchen cabinets. -Outdoor toys are showing signs of mould. The toys need to be cleaned before children continue playing with them.

  Corrective action. Ensure the furniture, equipment and fixtures within the facility are clean and in good repair.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

  Observation. A random selection of children's files were reviewed. Out of the 4 reviewed, 1 did not have a record for a medical practioner.

  Corrective action. Ensure a record showing the name and telephone number of a medical practioner is on file.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): A random selection of children's files were reviewed. Out of the 4 reviewed, 1 did not have the date of enrolment.

  Corrective action. Ensure a record showing the date of enrolment is on file.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  In respect of a record referred to in this Division, a licensee must (a) keep in a single place at the community care facility the records referred to in sections 56 to 58.

  Observation. Some records for the facility were stored in the personal residence of the Licensee.

  Corrective action. Ensure records are kept in a single place at the facility.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

  Observation. During the inspection of the physical facility a bleach jug was observed under the kitchen sink. The cupboard did not have a lock on it and the children could easily access the jug.

  Corrective action. Please ensure all hazardous substances are out of reach of children.

• LICENSING

  A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.

  Observation. During the inspection of the facility it was observed that the manager's name was not displayed.

  Corrective action. Please ensure that the manager's name is displayed.
