• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. The classroom window does not have a restrictor to prevent the window from opening all the way. The window has a 5 foot distance to the ground.

  Corrective action. Ensure the window has a restrictor

  In respect of a record referred to in this Division, a licensee must (a) keep in a single place at the community care facility the records referred to in sections 56 to 58.

  Observation. The facility had records on-site for September 2024 until present for the following: Attendance and Fire and emergency drills.

  Corrective action. Ensure all files are kept on-site for at least 1 year

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

  Observation. 2 staff files were reviewed with one staff certificate not having a validation from the registry

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. Five wooden tables in the facility are worn. Some of the tables have most of the finish removed from wear and tear and would not be able to be sanitized.

  Corrective action. Ensure table are repaired or replaced.

  Observation. Three staff files were reviewed and one file did not have a record of the person's work history

  Observation. The Manager's file was unavailable for review.

  Corrective action. Ensure all records are available for review upon inspection.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.

  Observation. A random selection of staff files were reviewed. Out of the 3 reviewed, 1 file did not contain the staff's immunization status.

  Corrective action. Ensure there is evidence staff have complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis programs.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

  Observation. A random selection of children's files were reviewed. Out of the 6 files reviewed, 1 did not contain the information for a medical practioner.

  Corrective action. Ensure the name and phone number of a medical practioner is on file.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.

  Observation. A selection of staff files were reviewed. Out of the 4 reviewed, 1 file contained only 1 reference.

  Corrective action. Ensure 2 character references are on file in respect to the employee.

  Observation. A review of 2 new staff files found that both staff were missing evidence of immunization status

• LICENSING

  A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed that the Licence and the name of the manager was not displayed in a prominent place in the facility. the Licence had been found on a shelf at the back of the facility with several items stored in front of it.

  Corrective action. Ensure the Licence is displayed in a prominent place in the facility and that the name of the Manager is also displayed.

• MEDICATION

  If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.

  Observation. Medication was found in the first aid backpack for a child who is about to begin the program. No specific instruction or plan for this individual child was located or available.

  Corrective action. Ensure that any medication provided by the parent to be administered to the child is specified in the child's care plan or record with specific times and in what amount to be administered.

  Observation. Licensing observed that all of the food contained in the emergency kit had expired.

  Observation. A review of 2 staff files found that one file did not have a copy of a current first aid certificate. Program Manager provided a digital copy from her phone that the employee had provided upon hire but did not have a copy on file at the facility,
