  • A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed that some furniture, equipment and fixtures were unclean and in poor repair, such as missing heat vents, a damaged bathroom door handle, cracked and rising bathroom floor titles, a torn diaper mat, unclean refrigerator, etc.

    Corrective action. The licensee will provide a corrective action plan, and licensing will conduct a follow-up inspection.

Licensing observed several potential hazards inside and outside the facility, such as a reachable hose dangling from a patio, an unlocked and accessible hot tub and filled temporary pool, perishable food items, garbage, etc. All of the potential hazards were accessible to children.

    Observation. The Licensee's first aid certificate expired on July 19, 2022. The Licensee will be completing the First Aid training on August 27, 2022.

    Corrective action. Ensure children have at all times immediate access to an employee who holds a valid First Aid and CPR certificate.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. The following was observed inside the facility: - Toilet seat is dirty and appears to have not been cleaned - The bathroom sink appears to have not been cleaned - The diaper change pad has a tear making the material porrous and unable to sanitize. - Several dirty dishes were left soaking in the sink. This appeared to have been left soaking for days. - Left over food was left on the tables, high chairs and kitchen counter. Licensing arrived as lunch time ended however, this appeared to have been left over from another meal time. - The fridge had liquid collecting at the base of the inside of the fridge - The fridge door and door handle was dirty - Garbage was thrown in different areas of the floor (go go squeez, snack wrappers) - The floors of the facility appeared to have not been cleaned for several days. The residue on the floor appeared to be from food, shoes and dog paws.

    Corrective action. Ensure the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The following was observed inside the facility: - Bleach solution is made on a weekly basis. - There is no fan or AC in the facility. The facility felt humid and there was no air circulation. The outdoor temperature was 26 degrees celcius.

    Corrective action. Ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

  • LICENSING

    Licensees must not make any structural change to a community care facility unless the licensee first (a) submits plans for the change to a medical health officer.

    Observation. The following structural changes were made to the outdoor play space: - The Licensee has installed a 15ft x 36ft inflatable above ground pool. - A 4 ft fence has been installed across the backyard to separate the pool area from the outdoor play space for the children. The licensee said the pool is for personal use only and children in the facility will not be using the pool. The outdoor play space has been shut down by licensing immediately until proper plans and permission has been obtained for the use of the pool. The Licensee will need to plan for other ways the facility will meet the active play policy.

    Corrective action. Ensure no structural changes are made to a community care facility unless a plan is submitted to licensing.

    Observation. Upon Licensing's request for the children's files, the Licensee wasn't sure where all the files were. Some files were stored upstairs in the living quarters of the Licensee, some in the kitchen, and some on a table in the facility.

    Corrective action. Ensure the records referred to in sections 56 to 58 are stored in a single place at the facility.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. During the inspection of the indoor and outdoor physical facility the following was observed: - Area of the facility were not clean including: high touch areas such as the wall close to the main entrance as well as the door; the bathroom sink and toilet were marked by dirty fingerprints. - Standing water and debris such as empty pop cans was observed on the playground surface. - A children's slide, 2 feet in height was pointed towards the cement area of the play yard, having no resilient surface underneath.

    Corrective action. Please ensure the facility is in clean and good repair while children re in attendance.

    A licensee must have first aid kits that are readily accessible to all employees, including while care is provided off the community care facility premises.

    Observation. A review of the emergency kit revealed that the kit was missing gloves, had expired medicated wipes, and only a few Band-Aids.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that the first aid kit is stocked so staff can respond to an emergency.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. During the inspection the following was observed: - the surface of the table in the playroom had remnants of food and jam on it. When asked about sanitization the licensee stated that she sanitizes the table before and after eating. The table was not sanitized after one of the children had breakfast. A discussion with the licensee revealed that she prepares the sanitizing (bottle of bleach) every couple of days. - The back yard contained a ladder 3 feet and 3 inches high leading to a large trampoline. Licensee mentioned that children do not use the trampoline, only her daughter does. - An electrical wire was across the play yard posing a tripping hazard. - A watering hose was left tangled in the grass, posing a tripping hazard. - An unlocked hot tub containing water and swimming pool equipment were present in the back yard. - Ten piles of dog feces were present in the grass in the back yard. - The grass in the back yard was not maintained. - A broom, a shovel, a cookie sheet, and small orange cones were present on the walking pathway presenting a tripping hazard. - An irrigation hose was dangling from the deck presenting a strangulation hazard. - A rusted wheelbarrow was located under a shed. - There is no evidence of a system being in place to ensure regular checks and maintenance of equipment.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that the bleach bottle is prepared fresh every day as well as areas of high touch are sanitized daily.
