- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. - Clorox disinfecting wipes are placed on the diaper change table. This table is accessible to all children. - There is only 1 tub available of Clorox disinfecting wipes that is shared between the bathroom and eating area. - Some of the resilient surfacing tiles in the outdoor play space have reduced in size creating large gaps between the tiles. This poses as a tripping hazard for the children. - The Licensee applied sunscreen with her bare hands to all children prior to going outside to play. There is no system to mitigate the risk to children with sensitive skin.
Corrective action. Submit a corrective action plan.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep (a) a copy of the written statement, referred to in section 19 of the Act, that the licensee delivers to persons who prepay part of the cost of services
Observation. A selection of children's files were reviewed. Out of the 6 reviewed, all 6 files did not contain a prepayment contractual agreement.
Corrective action. Ensure children's files are complete.
19051 - CCLR s.56.1(2)(a) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.
Observation. A selection of children's files were reviewed. Out of the 6 reviewed, 5 files did not contain an enrolment date.
Corrective action. Ensure children's files are complete.
19080 - CCLR s.57(2)(b) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation. - 1 child in was not signed in today - 1 child who left early was not signed out
Corrective action. Ensure attendance records are completed daily.
19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (k) the date on which the child stops attending the community care facility.
Observation. A selection of children's files were reviewed. Out of the 12 reviewed, 5 files did not contain dates of when the child stopped attending the facility.
Corrective action. Ensure children's files are complete.
19180 - CCLR s.57(2)(k) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
The licensee must (a) develop the care plan in consultation with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.
Observation. Care plans were not developed in consultation with the parent or any person requested by the parent for 2 children in care.
Corrective action. Ensure children's files are complete.
19250 - CCLR s.58(2)(a) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
In respect of a record referred to in this Division, a licensee must (c) produce records, on demand, to the medical health officer.
Observation. A child in attendance today did not have any records available for review. The Licensee said it was the child's first day and the parent did not bring a copy of the record.
Corrective action. Ensure all children attending the facility have a file in place prior to starting at the facility.
19340 - CCLR s.59(c) - STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.
Observation. Character references for 1 staff was not obtained.
Corrective action. Ensure staff files are complete.

Observation. A review of fire drills for the year found that one month was not practiced or recorded. The evacuation plan was practiced and recorded for the year

A licensee must ensure that children have at all times immediate access to an employee who (a) holds a valid first aid and CPR certificate, provided on completion of a course that meets the requirements of Schedule C.
Observation. The Staff person who transports the school age children to and from school did not have a valid 1st aid certificate on file. Manager stated she had completed the training but had not provided a copy of the certificate at the time of inspection
Corrective action. Obtain copies of valid first aid certification for all staff

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation. During inspection the following was observed: - A fan is positioned on top of a 4 foot toy shelf with cords from the fan hanging down which present a strangulation hazard. The cord is plugged into an outlet that children have access to. - in the play room a device is plugged into an outlet that is accessible to children. - licensee corrected during inspection. - in the nap room an air conditioner and fan are plugged into an outlet that is at child level. The cords also present a strangulation hazard because they have not been secured. - a magnetic building stick set was stored on a shelf that is available to infants and toddlers. This magnetic building set has been recalled and should not be in use - corrected during inspection - two four foot shelving units have not been secured to the wall after removal for maintenance and pose a tipping hazard.
Corrective action. Ensure all electrical cords have been secured, electrical outlets are inaccessible, dangerous toys are removed and shelving has been secured or is inaccessible
11200 - CCLR s.17 - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. Drywall and mudding is exposed outside the children's washroom.
Corrective action. Ensure the walls are finished and painted outside the children's washroom.
