  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The following was observed: - The electrical outlets in both Hall A and Lower Multi Purpose room were not covered by child proof devices. - The children have been routinely washing their hands proof to snack time in the commercial kitchen sink located next to the Lower Multi Purpose room. This room has not been inspected or approved for use by children for hand washing. It has equipment that over 4 feet tall that is not fixed to the wall as well as cupboards that are accessible to children with contents that may not be appropriate for children. A commercial gas stove is also located in this room and has not been fitted with child proof modifications. Staff also store their personal bags and backpacks on a table that is at child level. This door to the kitchen is propped open during the preschool session for access as needed.

    Corrective action. Ensure the children do not have access to the commercial kitchen unless child proof modifications have been put in place and all equipment over 4 feet has been secured.

    Observation. A review of children's files found that two children with allergies and one child with asthma, all requiring medication, did not have care plan in place to direct staff regarding the courses of action recommended by health care professionals.

    Observation. A review of children's files, found that one child's file could not be located on site during time of inspection. Staff identified that it was taken to an office area the week prior when the child's parent was called to pick them up from class. The emergency contact information for the child was available but not the facility file.

    Observation. A review of four staff files found that one was missing validation of their ECE certificate

    Observation. Four staff files were reviewed and one was found to have an expired Criminal Record Check. Staff verified that the criminal record check had been submitted to the review program but results have not been returned.

    Corrective action. A system must be in place to ensure Criminal Record Results are received prior to the expiry of the current check on file.
