  • C7.1 - Is the facility safe, sanitary, free from hazards, in good repair, and appropriate for the age and development of children?Non-critical

    Observation. The cupboard under the sink in the bathroom was unlocked and contains cleaning supplies. This is a reoccurring contravention originally found out of compliance on October 5, 2022 and subsequently on May 26, 2023. Cleaning supplies are considered hazardous substances and need to be kept in a manner that is inaccessible to the children. Outline the system developed to ensure children do not have access to any hazardous substances. The hot water in the bathroom measured 55 degrees Celsius. Any heated water accessible to children must not be more than 49 degrees Celsius. Outline the system developed to decrease and monitor the water temperature.

    Observation. A system for daily, monthly and annual outdoor play space inspections is in place, however appears to be ineffective as the documents are not kept up to date. The licensee disclosed the daily checks are occurring but are not documented on a regular basis. A log of all play space inspections, maintenance and repairs needs to be up to date and available for licensing review. Outline the system developed to ensure inspections are occurring and documented as required.

  • C2.1 - Are written policies and procedures in place to guide employees in all matters regarding the care and supervision of children?Non-critical

    Observation. It was observed that a fire drill was not conducted for the month of May. The Licensee disclosed the drill was conducted and was not documented as required. This is a reoccurring contravention originally found out of compliance on May 26, 2023. Current records indicating each employee practices the fire drill system at least once a month is required. Outline the system developed to ensure fire drills are occurring and documented each month.

    Observation. The fire drill system was not posted for review in a prominent place. A fire drill had not been conducted for the month of February 2023. It was disclosed by Licensee that the emergency evacuation drill had not been conducted within the past year.

    Observation. Cleaning supplies were accessible to the children that were being stored in the bathroom. A sharp knife was left on the counter and within the children's reach.

    Observation. It was disclosed by the Licensee that the facility has been closed unexpectedly in the recent months and had not been reported to licensing. Children's files were missing medical insurance plan numbers.

    Observation. Reasonable access to a home-like environment includes using upstairs kitchen for baking and a nap room for sleeping and quiet play/stories. Cleaning products under sink, and hot water tank area must be made inaccessible to children. Edges of tin siding on playhouse structure must be covered to prevent injury. Gap under gate must be less than 3.5 inches.

    Observation. Acceptable results of a Lead in Drinking Water test are required to be submitted to Licensing. Information about the process was sent to Licensee.

    Observation. Criminal Record Check results are required for a person over the age of 12 who lives at the facility. A plan to ensure the health and safety of the persons in care while awaiting the receipt of CRC results, is required to be submitted to licensing by the follow up date.

    Observation. Acceptable results of a 91 day Radon test are required to be submitted to Licensing. Instructions have been forwarded to Licensee to start the testing in the fall.
