  • C10.3 - Is the facility compliant with temporary placement/retentions and the ratio of employees to children?Critical

Observation. A temporary placement exemption is in place for the facility. Through a review of attendance records and discussion with the Licensee it was determined that the exemption was no longer required as of July 2024 when the circumstances relating to this exemption had changed. An exemption is no longer required once the ratio specified in respect to group size, the number of children cared for at one time and the ratio of employees to children meet the minimum standard of the Child Care Regulation. Notify Licensing immediately to have the current exemption revoked and outline the system developed to monitor future exemptions.

  • C4.1 - Are facility records current and complete?Non-critical

Observation. It was disclosed during inspection the facility was closed unexpectedly due to a service delivery problem. The incident was not reported to Licensing. A notification to Licensing is required within 24 hours after a child is involved in, or may have been involved in a reportable incident as described in Schedule H of the Child Care Regulation. Report the incident to Licensing as required and outline the system developed to ensure incidents are reported in a timely manner. The attendance record is incomplete and missing the Licensee's child for every day reviewed. A daily attendance record is required for all children in care. Outline the system developed to ensure attendance records are kept for all children in care as required. It was disclosed that medication has been administered to a child without the Licensee recording the time and the amount given to the child. A record needs to be kept that indicates the amount of medication given and time it was administered. Outline the system developed to ensure records are kept for medication administration as required.

  • C7.1 - Is the facility safe, sanitary, free from hazards, in good repair, and appropriate for the age and development of children?Non-critical

Observation. The Licensee is using a vinegar and water solution to clean the tables and diaper changing area. The vinegar solution is not sufficient for disinfecting eating and diapering areas. A cleaning solution with a drug identification number (DIN) needs to be used as directed to sanitize tables and eating areas prior to meals and snacks as well as diaper changing areas. Outline the system used to ensure sanitizing is occurring as required. A play house in the outdoor play area has a damaged door with sharp edges where the children can reach. Equipment must be free from hazards to ensure the health and safety of the children. Outline the system developed to ensure hazards are identified and confirm when the hazard has been addressed. Children's hand towels in the washroom are being stored in contact with each other. It was disclosed the towels are washed once per week. Hand towels for drying hands need to be single use or stored and sanitized in a manner to promote the health and hygiene of children.
