    Observation. The emergency consent for each child's file does not provide consent from a parent to call a medical practitioner or ambulance. The procedure outlines the facility will take the child to the nearest emergency service. Written consent from a parent to call a medical practitioner or ambulance is required to be on file for all children in care in the event of an emergency. A response is required by July 15, 2025 to confirm all written consents have been obtained.     Observation. One employee file is missing a record of the person's work history. A person must not be employed until the manager has obtained the required records. A response is required by July 15, 2025 to confirm the employee file is complete.

    Observation. Two employee files did not have evidence documenting employee ECE certification has been verified through the ECE Registry. A system to document the verification was observed in the employee files, however was not filled in. A person employed as an educator or assistant who holds a certificate must be verified by the Licensee using the system established by the ECE Registry. Outline the system developed to ensure certificate validations are completed and documented as required.

  • C10.2 - Are children supervised, and are employee to children ratios maintained?Critical

    Observation. One employee was on site for the duration of the inspection. On two separate occasions the children were left unsupervised: 1) The educator was in the kitchen and the children were in the play room behind a closed gate. 2) The educator was assisting children in the bathroom with diapers and toileting while the rest of the children were in the kitchen doing an activity out of sight of the educator. On both occasions children were in conflict with one another and needed assistance from the educator. Children must be supervised at all times by a qualified person. Outline the system developed to maintain appropriate supervision when a person is working alone with children.

  • C9.1 - Are there plans and actions in place to ensure medications are stored and administered properly?Non-critical

    Observation. A medication bottle was observed in a staff lunch bag on the kitchen counter. The bottle was visible and accessible to the children. This was corrected during inspection. Any medication or hazardous substance must be kept in a manner that is not accessible to the children. Outline the system developed to ensure all medications or potential hazardous substances are kept out of reach of the children in care.

    Observation. On one side of the yard the fence has a large opening that children can easily pass through. There are gaps under and along the fence that range from 3.5 inches to 9 inches and may pose a risk of entrapment for children. The space between the railings on the lower deck are between 3.5 to 9 inches and may pose a risk of entrapment for children.

    Observation. Outlet covers are missing on several electrical outlets on the lower level of the facility.

    Observation. Children's files do not include a clear start and end date. Facility staff records are not kept at the facility.

    Observation. Two staff files are missing CRC, they have a RCMP clearance in the file. Two staff files are missing evidence that the person has complied with the province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs. A staff ECE licence to practice expired on September 24, 2020. A staff first aid certificate expired on February 27, 2019.

  • C7.1 - Is the facility safe, sanitary, free from hazards, in good repair, and appropriate for the age and development of children?Non-critical

    Observation. The facility has not tested for Radon. A large plastic climber/slide requires protective surfacing.
