• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

  Observation. One staff member's criminal record check had recently expired

  Corrective action. The manager stated she would re-apply for the criminal record check and that the staff would not be alone with the children during preschool hours until the results were obtained.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

  Observation. Licensing observed the certificate in one file had not been verified.

  Corrective action. The manager said she would obtain the validation and put in the file

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  In respect of a record referred to in this Division, a licensee must (a) keep in a single place at the community care facility the records referred to in sections 56 to 58.

  Observation. The manager was not able to produce a copy of the facility's policies. However, stated that policies are stored off-site. Education was provided on the intent behind having copies accessible within the facility.

  Corrective action. Please ensure required polices and procedures are stored in a single place at the community care facility.

  A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (a) the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support, as made by health care professionals.

  Observation. Licensing observed no care available for a child requiring extra support.

  Corrective action. Please ensure a care plan is created for each child requiring extra support showing the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support.

  A licensee providing a care program described as Preschool (30 Months to School Age) must not provide care for more than 4 hours each day to each child.

  Observation. Upon inspection, there is a child attending more than 4 hours in a day.

  Corrective action. Please ensure care is not provided for more than 4 hours each day to each child.

  A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

  Observation. Upon inspection, there is no log kept for fire drills.

  Corrective action. Please ensure there is a record kept respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c).

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry,

  Observation. During inspection 2 staff files were reviewed and found both were missing validations.

  Corrective action. Please ensure that a system is in place to verify staffs certificate.
