  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Observation. During inspection of the outdoor play area the following was found: 1) The swing set in the playground does not have 6 foot clearance in front or behind of the fully extended swing. 2) The grass under the swingset has eroded exposing the hard ground. There is no longer any resilient surfacing under this structure. 3) On the swing set, one set of chains had bare metal exposed and it is now rough and rusting. The other chain's protective covering is starting to fall apart exposing the metal chain. 4) The wooden deck has one plank that has a hole made by a chair leg slipping though the slat. It poses a tripping hazard to children.

Corrective action. 1) Ensure there is 6 feet clearance around swing set and all climbing equipment. 2) Ensure there is sufficient resilient surfacing under and around all swingsets and climbing structures. 3) Repair or replace swing chains 4) Repair or replace wooden plank on the deck to prevent a tripping hazard.
