    Observation. The fridge in the infant classroom where the children's food are kept is below 0 degree Celsius

    Corrective action. Manager will adjust the temperature to ensure that it is between 0 - 4 degree Celsius

    Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (a) children attending a community care facility are divided into groups, with each group having no more children than that permitted in Schedule E.

    Observation. Licensing observed that three children under 36 months were playing in the playground licensed for 36 months to school age children at the upper level of the backyard. Manager confirmed that those children were not doing gradual entry.

    Corrective action. Manager will ensure that the children under 36 months will not be joining the 36 months to school age program unless parents povide a written agreement of the gradual entry plan and such agreement is kept in the children's file.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (h) any special instruction respecting the child's diet, medication, participation in a program of activities, or other matter relevant to the child's care, (i) given by the child's parent to the licensee in writing.

    Observation. Reviewed six children's files, and one of the files was missing information to guide and direct staff actions when a child needs his puffer medication.

    Corrective action. Manager will communicte with the parents to obtain such information.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. During the inspection the following was observed inside the facility: -Staff bags were located at the children's level. This could present a potential hazard. This was corrected during the inspection. -Many bouncy chairs were stacked under 4 feet in the nap area. This could present a potential hazard. The nap area must be used for children and not for storage purposes. The following was observed in the outdoor play area of the facility: -Fallen fruit from apple and plum trees on the grass. These must be discarded immediately to ensure the children do not consume foods that may be contaminated -A lighter was observed on the ground near the back fence.

    Corrective action. In discussion with staff, a brief playground check was completed in the morning by staff. Please ensure to complete a thorough check for hazards daily prior to children playing in the area.

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

    Observation. Licensing observed the staff records. A criminal record check was not present for one staff working at the facility from the criminal record review board.

    Corrective action. Please ensure a staff does not commence work at the facility until a cleared criminal record check from the criminal record review board is received.

    Observation. Licensing reviewed the staff records. One staff record was missing the ECE verification from the ECE Registry. This is a repeat contravention from inspection #MZIN-C5XTYQ

    Observation. Licensing observed that a copy of an Early childhood education assistant (ECEA) certificate was not obtained from the ECE registry.

    Corrective action. In discussion the staff shared an email from the ECE registry stating the ECEA certificate was in process. Please ensure not to employ a staff as an ECEA until you have received the certificate and verified the certificate.

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. The following were observed at the outdoor play area: - A black hose was unravelled and placed on the grass. This could potentially be a tripping hazard. - The ends of 2 metal screws were protruding, which was holding the wooden pieces of the outdoor playground equipment. This could potentially hurt children while they play on the equipment.

    Corrective action. Ensure children do not have access to objects that may be hazardous to their safety.

    Observation. Licensing observed that the paint is peeling on the outdoor play area equipment located at the back of the property.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the paint of the outdoor play area equipment is not peeling and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed that there were some months where the fire drill was not completed and recorded. This item was identified and contravened on June 12, 2019 on routine inspection report #CLAN-BD3SRR.

    Corrective action. Ensure that fire drills are completed each month and recorded.

    Observation. Although staff said during the inspection that the fire extinguishers have been addressed and serviced on-site a few months ago this year, Licensing observed that the next service due date for the fire extinguishers was on May 5th, 2021. This item was identified and contravened on April 14, 2020 on routine inspection report #CLAN-BNPUQR.

    Corrective action. Ensure that fire extinguishers are always serviced prior to the next service due date listed on the tag.

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. During the inspection the following was observed inside the facility: -a bottle of Lysol toilet cleaner was located on the floor in the children's washroom. This was within easy reach. This could cause a potential poisoning hazard. During the inspection the following was observed outside the facility: -a rusty fence -rusty fence posts (these were within easy reach of the children) The potential health hazard was discussed with the Manager. She will provide active supervision in the area where the rust is located. Please correct by May 13, 2020

    Corrective action. Please ensure children do not have accessto any objects or substances that are hazardous to their health and safety.

  • POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

    A licensee must have all of the following: (b) an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

    Observation. During the inspection the fire extinguishers were observed as expiring on Feb 25, 2020. The fire extinguishers were within the area of fully charged. In discussion with the Manager she stated she had been in contact with a company that services fire extinguishers on March 18, 2020. The company has not come to the facility. This could be due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

    Corrective action. Please ensure fire extinguishers are checked once per year and an inspection tag is attached. This will help prepare for, mitigate andrespond in an emergency. It is recommended that scheduling the servicing of the fire extinguishers is completed prior to the expiry date.
