    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed (after about 20 minutes being on-site) that no children were signed in on the attendance sheet today. Absent children should also be recorded daily.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the daily attendance record is completed and should indicate children's time of arrival, departure or if they are absent.

  • POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

    A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

    Observation. Licensing observed that the fire extinguisher required service and had a date of Aug. 09, 2023 on the tag.

    Corrective action. The manager said that she has spoken to the school and the fire extinguisher will be serviced as soon as possible.

  • POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

    A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment]. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed that for the month of January 2024, the date which the fire and emergency drill was completed was not documented. The manager said that both drills were completed with the children, and was just not recorded by staff. This is a repeat contravention and was noted on Jan. 03, 2023 on report number MZIN-CMQW4Q.

    Corrective action. The manager has written the date of the drills and noted when they were completed on the log sheet, for the month of Januray 2024.

    Observation. Licensing observed that two children did not have the name and phone number of their medical practitioner/clinic on file.

    Corrective action. The manager said that she has began to connect with the parents to ensure this information is on file.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING

    In respect of a record referred to in this Division, a licensee must (a) keep in a single place at the community care facility the records referred to in sections 56 to 58.

    Observation. Although the manager confirmed to Licensing that the staff has a complete file, Licensing observed that one staff did not have any records or file located at the facility. This is a repeat contravention and was previously mentioned in routine inspection report #CLAN-BJTT7Y.

    Corrective action. Ensure all staff working at the facility has files and records available on-site.

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

    Observation. Licensing checked the staff records and observed that the Criminal Record Check for two staff were expired. The manager said to Licensing that all staff have renewed their Criminal Record Checks, but the record and file posted on-site has just not been updated.

    Corrective action. Ensure that current records of Criminal Record Checks for all staff are available on-site, and that the records and files in the premise are updated.

  • STAFFING

    A licensee must ensure that children have at all times immediate access to an employee who (a) holds a valid first aid and CPR certificate, provided on completion of a course that meets the requirements of Schedule C.

    Observation. In the beginning of the inspection, Licensing observed that all children were left with a staff, and there was no record available on-site to ensure that the staff had a current and valid first aid and CPR certificate. However, the staff and manager stated that first aid has been completed. Furthermore, Licensing checked the staff records and observed that the first aid for three staff were expired. The manager said to Licensing that all staff have renewed their first aid, but the record and file posted on-site has just not been updated yet.

    Corrective action. Ensure that a current record of first aid for all staff are available on-site, which is important to ensure children at all times have immediate access to an employee who holds a valid and current first aid and CPR certificate.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed that the counter, close to the window sill, has cracks, is lifting and some areas are covered in duct tape. The cracks may harbour bacteria and duct tape is difficult to clean. This is a repeat contravention from inspection #CLAN-BJTT7Y

    Corrective action. Please ensure the facility is in good repair.

    A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support.

    Observation. During the inspection licensing reviewed information documented by a parent in a child's record. The child requires occasional medication and has been directed by a parent to self administer the medication when needed. In discussion with the Manager she stated she has not observed the child self-administer the medication and does not have written permission from the parent about the type of medication that is administered and when the medication is administered. Licensing discussed the need to create a care plan, developed in consultation with the parent for the child that outlines the following: Signs and symptoms, type of medication being administered and when and the need for the child to administer the medication in the presence of facility staff. This is a repeat contravention from inspection #CLAN-BJTT7Y

    Corrective action. Please ensure a care plan is developed for a child that requires extra support.
