    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The following was observed during the inspection: -staff personal bags were placed within the children's reach. This could present a potential hazard. This was corrected during the inspection in one of the classrooms. -several long electrical cords were observed hanging from a drying rack used for art. These could present a potential hazard

    Observation. Medication for three children is stored in their backpacks located on the floor. These were accessible to children in care.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.

    Observation. Licensing observed a hanging bar that was located in the multi-purpose room. The hanging bar was approximately 5 feet 5 inches from the wooden floor. There was no resilient surface located underneath the hanging bar.

    Corrective action. Please ensure the equipment inside the facilty is free from hazards.

    A licensee must ensure that at all times an employee is available who is competent to either (a) administer a child's medication as instructed by the child's parent or required by the child's record or care plan.

    Observation. During the inspection licensing reviewed the children's files. In a child's file it was noted that a care plan was completed and medication was required in the event of an emergency. In discussion with the Manager she was unaware of the directions in the child's care plan and where the child's emergency medication was located. It is concerning to licensing that the Manager may not be prepared to assist the child requiring medication in an emergency.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that staff are familiar with the details in a child's care plan and where emergency medication is located to be prepared in case it is required in an emergency.

    A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.

    Observation. Licensing measured the water temperature for three out of five sinks in the washroom in the facility. Three sinks had a temperature of 57.7, 58.2 and 58.9 degrees celsius.

    Corrective action. Please ensure the water that is accessible to children does not exceed 49 degrees celsius to ensure the health and safety of children in care and to comply with the legislation.

    Observation. During the inspection a volunteer was observed working in the facility. Two references were not completed for the volunteer.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that volunteer records are complete and that character references are completed prior to volunteering at the facility.
