• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. A loose cord was observed in the kitchen

  Corrective action. Options for securing the cord were discussed with the Manager

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.

  Observation. One child's record was missing an MSP number

  Corrective action. The Manager explained she will contact the family for the information

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.

  Observation. One staff record had one staff reference

  Corrective action. The Manager explained she will ask for an additional reference and will verify the reference

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (b) located so as not to block or hamper an exit in the case of fire or other emergency.

  Observation. Licensing observed that a wooden table and chairs was partially blocking the hallway. This can present a potential hazard if the facility is required to evacuate in an emergency.

  Corrective action. Please ensure to not place equipment or furniture in the path to an emergency exit to ensure a safe exit in a potential emergency.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.

  Observation. Licensing observed the staff records. Reference dates were not recorded as received for one staff.

  Corrective action. In discussion the references were on the staff record but were not checked.

• POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment]. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed that for the month of October 2023, the fire drill was not recorded. Staff mentioned that it has been completed and implemented with children during that month.

  Corrective action. Ensure that all fire drills are recorded and documented.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

  Observation. Licensing observed that two certificates were not validated and verified via the online system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. The website was shown to the facility during the inspection.

  Corrective action. Ensure that all certificates are validated and verified via the online system maintained by the early childhood educator registry, and include the proof of validation in staff files.
