  • POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

    A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

    Observation. There are not enough supplies in the emergency kit for all children for up to 72 hours and the kit is stored in a cupboard with no way of taking the supplies out of the facility in the case of an evacuation.

    Corrective action. The manger will ensure there are enough supplies for all children for up to 72 hours and a way for staff to take the supplies with them in case of an evacuation.

  • STAFFING

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (d) copies of any diplomas, certificates or other evidence of the person's training and skills.

    Observation. A current ECE Certificate was not available for the manager.

    Corrective action. The manager will ensure that a current ECE certificate is available.

    Observation. Upon inspection, Licensing observed diaper cream with din numbers stored in a way which was accessible to children.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed in the playroom the front ledge of the hearth of a fireplace covered with a soft protective material but the sides of the hearth exposed to concrete and rock material.

    A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.

    Observation. Licensing observed the staff and children going for a walk. The manager stated that they do not have a transportation policy but do inform parents/guardians of the outing. Education was provided on the reasoning why a policy is required and resouces will be provided on what information the policy should include.

    Corrective action. Please ensure written policies and provides are created to guide employees in the care and supervision pretaining to the transport of children.

    Observation. Licensee noted a manhole by the entrance of the child care where children walk to be dropped off and picked up, as well as walk to access the outdoor play space, that has a cover that is loose and in need of repair.

    Corrective action. Please ensure the manhole is repaired.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. The couch in the main activity room is showing signs of wear as portions have worn away and the surface is now porous and is no longer cleanable.

    Corrective action. The Licensee will need to replace the couch. Due to the current pandemic this may take a longer than usual period of time therefore the corrective date will reflect this unique circumstances. Alternately the Licensee may chose to remove the couch.
