A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. The following was observed during the inspection: -An open garbage can on the floor had no lid and a plastic bag. This could present a hazard. This is a repeat contravention from inspection #CLAN-D64PJ6 -A washer and dryer were accessible to the children and were easy to open. This is a repeat contravention from inspection #KCHG-CT6NB8
Corrective action. In discussion the Manager said she and the staff watch the children at all times to ensure they don't access the garbage or the washing machine or dryer.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. Licensing observed the following: -An open garbage can in the classroom. This could present a potential hazard to the children in care -Cardboard was placed next to a heater. This can cause a potential fire hazard. -Several bottles of acrylic paint were observed in an open bin in the closet. These were accessible to children -A slide in the outdoor area was placed next to a raised planter bed made of bricks. Please ensure a 6 foot fall distance is observed around a climbing structure or slide..

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation. The following was observed: -A bag of ice melt was open and accessible at the children's level. The bag stated keep out of the reach of children. This was removed. -A staff bag was hanging on the door. A box of Claritin was observed in the bag. This was located at the children's level. This was removed during the inspection -Plastic bags were observed in a drawer that was easy to open. This was located at the children's level. This can cause a potential hazard. This was removed.
11200 - CCLR s.17 - MEDICATION
If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.
Observation. A tube of Polysporin was observed in the first aid kit. The facility did not have any permission forms to apply this medication
Corrective action. In discussion the Manager stated this is not used for the children in care. Licensing recommends removing the item or having signed permission forms on file.
16010 - CCLR s.53(1)(a) - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation. Licensing observed the record of fire drills. Fire drills were not recorded for the months of February to December.
Corrective action. In discussion the Manager stated she practiced the fire drills and recorded them in another book. The Manager was unable to produce the book where fire drills were recorded.

Observation. During inspection staff files were checked, and it was found that one of the staff's Criminal Record Check was expired.
Corrective action. Ensure there is proof on file that the staff has updated their Criminal Record Check.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry,
Observation. During inspection Licensing reviewed staff documentation and noted that there is no proof on file that one staff's ECE certificate has been validated.
Corrective action. Ensure there is proof on file that the staff's ECE certificate has been verified.

A licensee must ensure that children have at all times immediate access to an employee who (a) holds a valid first aid and CPR certificate, provided on completion of a course that meets the requirements of Schedule C.
Observation. During inspection staff files were checked, and it was found that one of the staff's first aid certificate was expired.
Corrective action. Ensure there is proof on file that the staff has updated their first aid certificate.
